Yep, it's me again. With all the chatter on Mirotic, I got inspired by another idea. Read all the way through, and I understand it's a lot, before jumping to conclusions.

Favors, Joe Johnson and Burks
for
Ryan Anderson, Tarik Black, expiring/waiveable throw ins, Houston's unprotected 2020 1st round pick and we can swap 1st round picks in 2019 and 2021 (we would have the right to switch our 1st rounder with Houston if their pick is better).

Why for Houston - they tried to dump Anderson in the summer but were unsuccessful: http://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/...rge-serious-contenders-chris-paul-la-clippers. He has 2 years and $43 million after this season. He hasn't had a great season, and Houston is desperately trying to contend this year. They were bold in going to get expiring Chris Paul so there is reason to believe they would be bold to add quality depth like Johnson, Favors and Burks. Most importantly, dumping Anderson would allow the Rockets the flexibility to keep Chris Paul, Ariza and Capella in the offseason as well as try to make other moves. Burks will make around $10 million less than Anderson next season and expires before Anderson's $21+ in 2019-20. Also, Houston is so focused on right now to worry too much about first rounders a few years away

Why for Utah - Favors, Johnson and Burks all seem very unlikely to be part of the long term plans for our Jazz. An unprotected 1st rounder, even in 2020, is probably more of an asset than any of these guys can get us. Our ability to swap picks with Houston in 2019 and 2021 could be massive should Houston fail to keep Chris Paul, get any significant free agents, or have any significant injuries. They are a James Harden injury away from being a terrible lottery team. They are already an old team. As for us in the short term, Anderson actually might help us. His ability to spread the floor along with Ingles could give Gobert and Mitchell a ton more space. He could play the role we hoped Johnson would play. Anderson has an awful contract, but it would go away before we had to re-sign Mitchell or Gobert.

This trade is more about dumping Anderson's salary than adding Favors. However, Favors gives them some amazing depth for their playoff run. If Capella gets in foul trouble or hurt, they've got a veteran in Favors off the bench.
 
I’d pass. Anderson’s deal is one year too long and he’s a little too limited. One late first rounder doesn’t do it for me... swap rights that are unlikely to be exercised don’t move the needle.
 
When healthy, the Rox have played like the best team in the NBA. Spacing (and vastly improved d) has a ton to do with that. And they’re gonna screw that chemistry up by trading their best stretch 4 for an expiring in the oft-hobbled Favors?

You really think Joe Johnson, Derrick Favors and Alec Burks cannot replace or improve what Ryan Anderson provides?

Houston would take those 3 over Anderson in a heartbeat regardless of contracts, draft picks, etc

I just don't see why either team would do the trade. It would be better for Utah just to let Favs and JJ expire so they have cap room. Having Anderson on the team prevents Utah from doing anything in free agency (not that DL plans to, I fear). Anderson wouldn't be part of the team going forward, so you just waste 2 years building chemistry with a player who is out the door.

As for Houston, they might go for a Favs + Burks. That allows them to essentially reduce the amount they owe by 50%. Would they throw in a late first? I doubt it. And there's no way they don't protect a pick.
 
Houston tried to give away Anderson last summer and his contract is an even a bigger issue this coming summer. It amazes me that some of you don't understand the financials of the NBA.

As for on the court this season, Joe Johnson can provide what Anderson has and maybe more with his iso play. Not to mention what Favors and even Burks will provide in terms of depth.

But hey, lets keep talking about trading our first rounder or Hood for Mirotic....

Why do our Jazz stay mediocre? Because we lack the balls for a bold trade. We have only done one (Deron) and failed to the do the ones necessary before and after that.

But maybe that's the way you little trolls like it. So you can stay bitter and cynical all the time.

This isn't a bold trade. It's a bad trade for both teams. Good job that's actually hard to do.

Houston, the same Houston that tried to dump Anderson in the summer, gets cap relief for a summer they have to re-sign Capella, Paul and Ariza - yep, you are spot on GB. This trade doesn't help them at all. Dropping $10+ and $21+ the next two years doesn't make them happy in the least bit.

Utah gets a stretch 4, an unprotected 1st rounder and possibly the chance to move up in 2 drafts for 2 expirings we aren't bringing back and a guy we don't play. And oh yeah, we really don't have that good a chance to play in the free agent market this summer anyway due to cap holds, new contracts, Rubio and Burks. But yeah, awful trade for us too...
 
No! Bad idea! Quit allowing your brain to come up with stuff like this. You do like the Jazz don't you?
A new father doesn't ask the opinions of the neighbors if he should chop the arm off of his son because its got a birthmark on it, does he? Your thread is no different. Look at the responses. Of course there's always a weird guy who will stand his ground and support you and encourage you to start severing limbs off of your new born. But don't listen to them. You should know better.
