How Bad will the Jazz Defense Be This Year?

True, but he learned a little something something about elite defense in Cleveland last season, playing next to Mobley and Allen. That coach was limited in his options, besides playing his #3 overall future superstar at the 4 , but he saw enough in Marky to play him at the 3 all season when noone else ever did it previously. I think the Cavs are probably feeling a little bit stupid right now, despite how good Spida has played without Garland available. If Marky had played this great in Cleveland they could have probably kept Agbaji and still got the Spida.

I think the Cavs were very happy with Lauri last season. There's a lot of mouths to feed in their starting lineup, with the strong investment in Garland and Mobley (and Allen being 100% dependent on others for his scoring opportunities), so having an efficient dude who didn't need the ball much there to compliment them was perfect. But there was no way he could've been doing the stuff he's doing now. Just not enough basketballs, particularly with Garland using a LOT of possessions.

I think the Cavs simply realized that Lauri was being wasted in a 3th/4th option role (and he's too good to play off the bench), and with their need to drastically improve the SG position, the decision to do the Mitchell trade was easy in the end. With Lauri, they lost some firepower, but replaced it with Don and a rotating cadre of dudes at the 3 to space the floor.

Lose a top 10 player and the greatest defender in NBA history according to the geniuses of this board and get better defensively, love it.
We could also say that we loose a top offensive player ( Don) and a good one ( Bogda) but it seems that we have a better team in terms of passing the ball and at the same level in term of offense. Whats does it prove? That Don and Rudy were not that good? No way, just that basketball is a team effort and that last year team was seriously lack of effort....

Wait wait wait wait... Are you saying this is *gasp* a TEAM GAME?! The **** you say? GTFOH with these uninformed opinions!

Yes, let's double down on this ridiculous over-reactive fantasy. The Jazz end the season at 64-18, far and away the best team in the league. They have the #1 seed throughout the playoffs. Markannen puts up a stat line of 26/11/4/2/2 with only 2 TO per game and leads the league in DBPM and most other defensive stats, and he wins MIP, DPOY, and MVP and finals MVP all in the same season. And he comes off the bench for exactly the number of games he needs to and wins the 6MOY as well. First major award sweep in league history. And Hardy also wins COTY. And 5 Jazz players make up the all NBA 1st team. Yes, that is definitely where this is all headed! **** the tank, I am on the Lauri-train mother****ers!!! Choooo-choooooooooo!!!
Wait, you think we actually lose 16 more games, aren’t we on a pace to go 80-2?;)

We lack rim protection for sure but make up for hustle and contesting shots. And obviously the motor of our guys is driving our Team. Hopefully we can sustain this
Yeah but they are impacting the ball getting to the rim and that negates a true need there as a result. They slack and then the rim protection weakness becomes a massive tank commander

They were no doubt happy with him as the 3rd seven footer I agree, but had they not been in a situation where they were "gifting" minutes to Evan Mobley, the new kid in town future all star etc. etc. I think Marky would have shown far more of what we see now , the way that Cleveland could have used him never was. Too bad for them lol we win and in the end I think those future picks we own from them will be icing not dog scraps

How will the Jazz guard Luka tonight? Obviously Vando will start, but you got to think he fouls out in 20 minutes guarding Luka .

Got to play THT 30 minutes and stick him on Luka
