How much would you pay KJ McDaniels?

We've been talking how one of our main needs is perimeter defender. KJ McDaniels have been showing great potential for a 3 and D guy at Philly. His defense has been amazing so far and I see him as potentially elite defender in a couple of years. Practically everything he does in defense is solid. He's a great shotblocker, his defensive rotations and PnR defense have been great as well. To add to that he seems like he can hit the 3 as well...

Well guess what. The guy believed enough in himself that he refused the min-contract that Philly offered him as a second round pick and will be free agent next year. If push comes to shove, would you be willing to pay a guy like that to come and play great off the bench defense for the Jazz? How much would you be willing to pay?

Isn't there a max to what he can be offered?

Like, kind of the same deal Portland had with Matthews? Wasn't Matthews technically maxed out based on what could be offered to him due to his experience?

I really wanted us to draft him, to bad he didn't slip a few more spots.

I'd wait to see how well he does this year, obviously.

I was a big fan of his during draft time and hoped that the jazz would take him as high as their 2nd first round pick. (I was not a fan of hood at the time and wanted no part of him...... After the first jazz scrimmage of the summer I fell in love with hoods jumper and now im glad he was our pick)

Would love to have him on the team next year

I know it's early, but he's playing phenomenal defense.

He's allowing players to shoot 38%, when they usually shoot around 44%. That's a 6% difference from the average defender. Again, it's a small sample size and really early, but that's really good.

I'd pay him more simply for the cojones he had turning down the contract.

Get him.

I think the max for first and second year players is the mid-level exception(for 2015-16 it's $5.464 million).

The bad thing is that 76s can match, I think...

Damn.

A pure SG or can he play the 2 and 3? I forget. I ask because with Burks and Hayward tied up long-term and Hood with a lot of promise here, where would KJM fit in exactly?

Personally, I'd be much more interested in getting a legit 5...someone who's a clear upgrade from Gobert (no knock, he's just another 1-3 years away) and Kanter.

pre-draft I thought KJ was a guy who could guard 1-3. As for where he would fit: well, we definitely need a lockdown guy out on the perimenter; if we get one, he'll earn his minutes and somebody else will not.

We do need another big, but I think it's Kanter that gets upgraded, not Rudy.

I loved him in the draft. I thought he'd be a great defensive player. Even with them taking Exum and Hood, I was hoping that they'd just give their 2nd round pick and cash to buy a late 1st to pick him. As far as his value, I'd have a hard time offering him a ton simply because he'd be a 3 and D specialist. I wouldn't hate it if the Jazz go after him, but they should have just saved some money and figured out a way to draft him.

They really need a #1 alpha scorer right now. . . their "Reggie White", to quote DL. Ideally, that guy would be a 4 who can shoot the ball. . . but that's what they need more than a defensive specialist. He'd be great, and I'd love to have him. . . but they need to focus on acquiring an All Star.

Take Alex Poythress in the 2nd round.

He's 3 inches taller, has a 41½" vertical (McDaniels = 37"), and most importantly for the Jazz purposes he's a much better rebounder than McDaniels.
