Not sure what is going on with Rubio. His shot continued to look decent in Europe this last Summer. He is not shooting flat and he is clearly overthinking/hesitating when he is shooting it from deep. I know he has the capability to hit wide open 3's at a decent percentage. If he can do that, it will open things up. Still, I wish the team had other sets as what they run is fairly predictable, and if outside shots are not falling, it is easy to pack the paint. My biggest beef with Quin's system is it largely allows defenders to relax off the ball. Nearly every screen is on ball. The Jazz of old had so many off ball screens, back screens, etc., it made the defenders work hard. I know 3's have a higher emphasis, but I do think we have the personnel to get a lot of points in other ways. Running some Flex and UCLA sets with Gobert's wide screens and the cutting ability and quickness of Exum, Burks, Mitchell, etc. could be fun to watch. I actually think those are the types of sets where Ricky would be awesome. He is a great passer, but Quin's offense does not take advantage of that.
I don't think full panic mode is necessary at this point. I do think Rubio is the key, and I think he has the ability to shoot. For the last 3 seasons he has started off slow and turned things on as the season progressed. Let's hope for a continuation of that.
