What's new

I know I will regret this.. (car)

but I truly have been laboring over the decision of my next vehicle.

I am ALL OVER THE MAP.

On the main issue, I am me.. I like my redneck roots. Want a car that can get me in and out better than a diamond-plated Trojan.
However, my investors are kinda giving me crap (lightly) about being an ACTUAL redneck and driving redneck ****.

So I have looked at going an opposite direction. I've looked at Ferrari F430 spiders, Rolls Ghosts, Bentley Spurs.. and all make me want to puke. Not to mention I feel like it's as obnoxious as fuhhhhhh in St. George.

I have looked at Mercedes S65 AMG, Tesla p85d (more accepted because of 'efficiency'), and the new Escalades.

I just can't do it.

I am looking, now, at this (reserved);

My 'excuse' is we are in the desert.. not Miami or NYC. I also feel like saying "F all you guys that think I should drive something other than who I am."

ANy advice? (I know how it looks, but I really am conflicted.)

Yes, they are street-legal. They will cost you a pretty penny though.

Not a more off-road capable vehicle out there.

Thanks, Dal.

I take some exception to your assertion about how capable it is.. considering I doubt you have taken one off road or understand real off road issues.. but I have had the 'regular' one, haven't even ever seen the one you posted, but too yuppy for me, at this point, in my life.

I would almost rather drive a Phantom.. at least I was full on at that point.

So, luxury sedan, off road beast (but newer), or super-sports-car?

Watch this and tell me you wouldnt love this car, Peeks. I dare you.

I can't even find one for sale. How much are they? $500K?

I think they were $600K when they first came out. You'd probably have to do some snoopin to find an owner who wants to get rid of his.

I don't find it Yuppy at all. Not a truck out there that has more hair on its chest.

Thanks. Solid suggestion.
Having said that, I would NEVER spend more than (some number far less than $600K) for a vehicle.
Also, I bet my current truck yanks that dude outta the trouble on the reg.. and it's only like $60k... with some special treatments.

Honestly, every single review of this car out there has called it the most off-road capable street-legal vehicle ever made. I always thought the normal 2-axle G-wagons were among the best off-road vehicles as well *shrugs shoulders*

Think of how many Zombies you'd run over during da apocalypse tho.

It may be. I obviously have no idea and no way to compare. I do appreciate you bringing it to my attention.

The 6x6s sold out worldwide. Mercedes is intro-ing this at a car-show this year, and they will release it if it gets interest. It'll be the best 4x4 they've ever made. They also say it will be much cheaper than the 6x6.

For this application, the direct-injection V8 engine produces 422PS (416hp) and is connected to a seven-speed 7G-tronic automatic gearbox with a separate transfer case and high / low ratio gearing. The SUV is equipped with three mechanical differential locks that can be selected by the driver.

Also new are the dual strut spring and adjustable damper units, with the driver being able to choose between Comfort and Sport modes through a button on the center console. According to Mercedes, "one spring/damper strut works conventionally with set damper characteristics," while "the second spring strut has electronically controlled adjustable damping, which thus varies the entire damping behavior depending on the current driving situation".

Thanks to the use of the special portal axles in which the axle tube is above the center of the wheel hub, the ground clearance on the G500 4x4² rises to an amazing 450mm (17.7 in) compared to the regular model's 210mm (8.3 in), and the driving or fording depth to 1 meter (39.4 inches).

Elsewhere on the chassis, both the front and rear tracks have been increased by 299mm (11.8 in).

Riding on new 22-inch rims wrapped in 325/55 rubber or optionally, special off-road 18-inch beadlock wheels, the G500 4x4² boasts an improved approach angle of 52 degrees and departure angle of 54 degrees.

Visually, and besides the massive wheels and increased ride height, the 4x4² gets extra wide and partially painted flared fenders on all four corners, integral LED light strips above the windscreen, plus the front bumper of the AMG models.

Inside, Mercedes added the designo Exclusive package that dresses the seat bolsters and head restraints, the dashboard, center console and armrests in leather with white contrasting topstitching, while the seat surfaces, door panels and headliner are covered in DINAMICA microfiber.

The more I think about this.. the more it actually works. Srsly. Except the price, obvi.

I say wait until the 4x4^2 comes out. If it's a palatable price, then that's what I'd do if I was in your shoes. Kinda lame having an off-road car that you see pricks driving in the streets-- that's what turns me off of the F150 Raptors, for example. Kinda like the modern-day Hummer H2. Either get "an H1" (aka the two Merc's I've posted) or go home.

Yeah, the balance is severe. The H1 is obnoxious, a gas guzzler.. while the H2 is a soccer mom's van and not good enough for the real estate developer.

Crazy how sensitive Utah is to this ****.

So get the compromise then ;)
