What's new

I need help from everybody: educating Bollerjack

Worst thing Bolerjack says isn't skip pass, it's "nothing but net" when the ball very obviously touched the rim. When the net doesn't move, it hit the rim. When the ball bulges the front of the net, it hit back iron. When the ball hits the rim three times, it's not nothing but net.

Thank you.

He has a litany of wrong calls that are bordering on self-parody. It is a disgrace and extremely grating. I would have to think by now someone would have told him and either he is too stupid to be taught or it is his own little joke on everyone that he really doesn't get. Like when my grandpa would say "pulled a boner" instead of "made a mistake" and kept saying it even after we told him it doesn't mean the same thing as it did in 1930, thinking he was keeping an inside joke alive when really he never truly got it. Bolerjack is a clueless old fart trying to sound hipsterish.

That said the worst thing is getting the play completely wrong, at least a half dozen times per game. Jingles just misses a shot from the corner of the free throw line and gets fouled, and Bolerhack calls it a made 3 by Hayward, who is suddenly "on fire" despite missing his last 4 attempts, then realizes they are shooting free throws so he says he narrowly missed a shot that bounced far wide, and wonders what the outcome of the review will be to see if he gets 2 or 3 free throws. Then corrects himself because he sees Joe shooting not GH. Of course there is no review. Harp tries to gloss it over, and Bolerjack just keeps spewing useless drivel. That's the worst of it. At least pretend you like the game enough to learn it so you can sound halfway educated about the gig that's paying you WAY too damn much money to get to be at half court for every game. We know it isn't football so you feel it isn't even a real sport or something but dammit man at least pretend you aren't squandering and trampling on many a fan's dream job. Or be a real man and give it up to someone who actually gives a ****.

guys, this isn't a thread for trashing Boler and Harp. It's about one problem. Thanks.

(I do feel your pain, though).

LOL, You opened the floodgate, can't stop the water from pouring in.

To me, Bolerjack is similar to a beloved family member with some behavioral quirks. You love the family member even more not in spite of the quirks, but because of them, as they are endearing.

I've listened to lots of other play-by-play announcers on NBA TV, and Bolerjack does just fine in comparison.

"skip pass" is waaaaay worse than this, brough.

I like our announcers. I cringe whenever Boler calls a just-released shot "looks good" and then misses, sometimes badly.

Hot Rod had an IQ. He also had an iota or two about what was going on in game. It was a joy to listen to him call games until the last few years. He was more like an auctioneer than a typical play caller.

Bolerjack is an automaton by comparison. Harpring has some good insights, but his attempts at humor are so offensively bad that it negates the positives he brings to color commentary. As annoying as David Locke can be, I'd rather listen to him and Boone than the TV squad.

There is something kind of wondrous, though, about the Jazz' corps of TV announcers. It is a veritable clown car of plastic brained mannequin-men. Alema Harrington? Steve Brown? Bolerjack? It's like visiting Grandma's house and viewing the nutcracker collection on the mantle.

just to bring us back to the point:

Boler has been at this for a decade. He needs to know what a skip pass is. This is not a Huge Ask in terms of IQ.

I'll be emailing David Locke later.

Boler knows what he's doing. He's trying to build his brand with stupidity.

The entire Jazz media does things like this. Sadly, PK is the only good one at pulling a parody off because everyone knows exactly that it is.

Spence Checkett's shtick is about as bad as KOCBegone's was. He ruins everything Gordon Monson brings to the table.

My bet is that at least a few colleagues and probably a bunch of fans have corrected him. I don't think it's an issue of IQ, but rather he just doesn't give a ****.

One of y'all can help educate him by creating a GT! I cannot create good GTs from here as pics are blocked. Someone step up!!!

GO JAZZ

Look Mr. Boler,

Most of us here like you and you still have your constant misuse of search dribble, calling obvious two's a three and what not. All we are asking is that you FINALLY stop misusing skip pass. You've replaced that saying with slip pass as one of your favorites anyway.

Thank you,

franklin

I've asked Boler to start using "hall pass" just to piss the OP off.

Jazz positions are too cozy. Guy has never felt like his job has been in jeopardy, which creates laziness and not giving a ****.

What's funny is the first time I heard Boler on the radio for a more candid interview I figured he'd sound like a complete moron but to my surprise sounded way more competent that I thought possible. There's some kind of zone he goes into as a commentator that got him the gig when he was younger and I assume got cozy, never self analyzing to improve his craft. Guy has sounded the same for 20 years.

But have your ever heard him call a football game? It's solid. He obviously knows and cares about that sport. It's just as obvious he doesn't give one flying **** about basketball other than cashing the paycheck.

Could be that, or you could be kind of proving my point. His football gig is with CBS I believe, a situation where he could easily be replaced if he wasn't doing a quality job.

He's also called football games a lot longer.
.
I don't hate boller, he could be better but he's far from the worst announcer out there in the NBA world.
