Ideal Rotation for the next two years?

All this talk about trading Millsap and Jefferson spurred me to think about what is the rotation we are trying to achieve?

Where do we want to end up at? What are the slots we need to fill either by the draft, trade or free agency?

I think this is where we should be heading to.

New PG 33/ Backup point 15
Burks 33/ Hayward 15
Hayward 18/ New SF 30
Favors 18/Millsap 30
Kanter 33/Favors 15

IMO we need to trade for a better youngish PG and try to draft a very good SF in the draft. Though you could try to do the reverse.

This means that Bell, CJ Miles, Watson/Price and Evans aren't really important in the long term. I traded Jefferson for new starting guard. Harris could be a very good 6th man or we could move him too for a SF.

The only current veteran I see us keeping is Millsap. Harris can come or go depending on things go. I like Evans as a backup PF.

Of course you have some other players for depth. But the above rotation would be our core.

If these young guys turn out how we dream they will. Kanter and Burks have not even played a minute of NBA ball yet, and Kanter was iffy in his International time. This is what we hope for, but we have to be realistic and not dump players that have proven to have value just yet.

I am all for dumping CJ and Bell for a couple of High School players though.

We need Watson back, Price can play backup somewhere else. His money is not worth the 5 minutes of defense he plays every 3 games.

Don't really know what PG we can get that is better than Harris right now. I'd still rather hold on to Jefferson and trade Millsap.

Evans intrigues me big time. I wouldn't count him out as a rotational regular. He could be the small forward you're looking for. I think he's quick enough, and I don't really like him going against the other 4s of the league given his size.

If he can continue to develop his jumper, as he and Hayward were reported to have done last year (Hayward clearly did).

Man, his physical gifts are incredible.

I'd also add that by the end of his ROOKIE season, he showed himself to be a very adequate if not GOOD team defender. I think he has a good chance of sticking here.

My money is on Jefferson being the odd man out (eventually). Harris won't have a long career here, either. He knows this; that's why he hasn't purchased a house yet.

I like where you are headed with this. I would only tweak this slightly.

New PG 33/ Watson 15
Burks 33/ Hayward 15
Hayward 23/ New SF 20/Evans 5
Favors 15/Millsap 33
Kanter 25/Favors 23

That is more how I see things being distributed.

Harris realy isn't that bad a PG. isn't he a top ten PG when he is healthy. i think we should give him a chance before we give up on him. furthermore, the Future of the jazz is burks at SG, Hayward at SF, Favors at PF, and Kanter at Center. i'm not sure we need a SF in the next draft... and if you are not sold on harris, why not draft a PG? also, why can't evans be important long term? he is atleast a possibility because he is still so young.

of course, you're arument we'll be that burks and kanter have not proved a thing yet and that makes sense... but honestly, i think a person doesn't know B-ball if they can't tell that burks has some special abilities and will therefore be a stud in the league. i keep on saying it! the guy is crafty, smooth, and able to do some amazing things with the ball in his hands

I think I see that too, but I'm holding on to that hope for now. You never know what off court issues players might have, or ego issues that mess with team effectiveness. I don't think he will have any problems, or be a headcase, but you never know until it happens. I'm probably 90% sure Burks will rock!

This. Especially in bold.

This actually concerns me a little. I keep seeing this kind of thing mentioned when discussing Burks. How much does he need the ball in his hands to be successful or effective? Everything I have heard is that he could do spot minutes at point, but that is not his strong suit. So is he going to be Maggette, capable when it is going his way, crap when he is pissed he doesn't touch the ball as much as he wants? We also already had a wing break down over not getting the ball enough. We don't need another one. He needs to be able to play within the team concept, as I highly doubt he is good enough to carry the team on his own ala Kobe or Wade, who both also really need the ball in their hands to do amazing things.
