After much discussion, my parents have booked plane-tickets for the five of us to Los Angeles. It will be our first time there.

LA is overrated if you do like Disneyland and Universal both are major Ripoffs. its pretty spread out I think and if you are renting a car prepare to sit in A lot of traffic ha ha ha But I liked the smaller cool suburbs with the big houses like the palisades, brentwood, and Its not too far from like Beverly Hills and places like That.

Cool and relatively cheap hotel is the Roosevelt in (or near) Hollywood. I'm telling you, the Redwood forest is something so awe-inspiring you will never forget it and will advise people to go there your entire life.

Don't forget to check out skid row and see Cyrone's future home. On a serious note, I guess it depends on what you like to do. If you are into the beach then Huntington/Newport/Seal/Laguna are all cool beaches. I guess you can do the tourist thing and see the walk of fame and famous Chinese Theatre. Just make sure the guy in the stained Elmo suit doesn't get too touchy feely. Not sure it is what you had in mind, but stay away from Disneyland. I get that you probably are too old for it anyway. But people still go at that age and it gets packed and is pretty lame. Knotts and Magic Mountain are pretty fun, but I am sure both are packed as well this time of the year. I would personally take a drive to Laguna Beach if you get a chance. It's a pretty cool little place to drive to. If you see a Dodger game, make sure you don't insult anyone. We wouldn't want to read another story about someone getting nearly beaten to death in the parking lot. On a serious note though, I would check out Chavez Ravine and Dodger Stadium. Then again, I grew up going to Dodger Stadium and it has that magical aspect about it to me that only a kid can really recall. If I think of more I will let you know.

This. I ended up helping my brother and his wife take my nephew and nieces to Disneyland, it is a major ripoff. We went on about 4-5 rides when it opened before the average wait time for rides was up to about 108 minutes or so. We bailed after that. 85 bucks down the drain if you ask me.

Also, we will only be there for 7 days. Redwood forest, laguna beach, alright. I will try to get tickets to a Dodgers game as well. Is there any other things I should look out for?

Compton, Watts, Hawaiian Gardens.... I would say the Oakland area if you were heading north(which I am not sure you are). I guess I would have to know your interests a little bit more in order to give you better suggestions. One other thing I would recommend that you do as a family is just take a drive on the Pacific Coast Highway for awhile. Obviously you will be doing this anyway if you decide to go to Huntington or Newport(you can actually choose as far as Laguna goes). It's a beautiful drive. One thing I forgot to mention that you might be interested in is the Santa Monica Pier. It's kind of a tourist thing to do, but it is actual pretty cool. You can take the PCH to it and check out Malibu in the distance on the cliffs if you like. I am not sure how curious you would be to see Rodeo Drive. But there is that as well. All the wealthy tend to congregate there to shop. Sunset Boulevard can be interesting to explore. Wannabe rappers will want to sell you their CDs typically. Oh and if you want to see the freaks that the world has to offer then take a trip to Venice Beach..... Not my thing, but might be yours. Also don't forget to eat some In N' Out Burger while you are there(if you eat meat of course). You shouldn't have a problem finding one, they are literally everywhere. There is one near the UCLA campus if you are interested in kind of checking that out(the campus). I guess you could be interested in the La Brea Tar Pits. But maybe not. I am guessing you won't be driving down to San Diego or I would offer a little more about that.
If you go to Laguna Beach, be sure to check out the Montage Hotel. It is a pretty ritzy place, but it is pretty cool just to check out. I know you are not of age(in the US) or I would warn you not to buy drinks there. 16-17 bucks a drink can add up quick. Beautiful views though.
