What's new

If Lindsey isn't willing to give Hayward max, he should trade him right now.

Hold on did you watch the first half at all. Hayward was terrible. He played great in the second half, but he is a long way from a max contract. Nothing in the first nine games tell me he is worth much more than 4 years 44 million.

Kanter on the other hand??

20/6/5 is easily worth $11 per year. He shouldn't get the max, but Hayward is going to get paid. You can believe that.

Max guy = someone who can kill it in the second half against a mediocre team on the 4th of a 4 games in 5 nights at home in a arena at high altitude?

Agree. Hayward should be making what Tyreke Evans makes give or take--$11.8M

Tyreke Evans sucks. But that doesn't mean Hayward should make more than 11.8 per year... I think Hayward scores around that. Maybe up to 12.5.

If Hayward gets the max from the Jazz. The Jazz will NEVER win a title. He is way above average but not a max money guy.

Yeah but you don't trade away legit/saavy talent, especially if you've spent 4 years developing it. Hayward isn't as replaceable as it may seem. Pay him 12-13 mil a year and deal with the cap issue later.

OP is hilarious. After one great game we're declaring a player worth max money? We're 1-8... no one deserves max money on a 1-8 team.

When did the OP ever say he thinks Hayward is worth max money? In fact, he stated that he DOESN'T think he's worth max money.

Hayward scores 20 ppg on a 1-8 team...on a 8-1 team he averages 14/3/2. Sorry still not convinced he's worth max money

If you're talking about his stats from last season, there are several things wrong with that.

1. We didn't start 8-1 like you're saying.

2. He played under 30 minutes per game.

3. He played next to Al Jefferson.

I'm confident Hayward could average 17 PPG on a very good team. That's not a max money guy, no, but someone who certainly deserves over $11M.

Either way he's going to get offered a lot better than 4/40. I think someone will definitely offer him around 55 and he may get offered 60. Teams have to overpay to lure RFAs. Jazz will probably be forced to either match or watch him walk away. They really should have gotten this done before the deadline, imo.

I think 4/61 is he max for Hayward that the jazz can offer. I know for other teams it is less. He keeps playing like this, he will probably get max for four years.

I'm just afraid the jazz will make an Andrei mistake. Hayward isn't a max player.

Hayward is balling his butt off for Utah right now. He will also continue to improve over the season. I expect many different tunes from posters come March and April.

I want to see what Hayward can do with a working PG and a bench that can hold a lead. His game has improved a lot as the season has gone on. He is looking better and better to me at least

As much as other teams like Hayward I have a hard time seeing one of them offering him a max contract. A lucrative one, probably, but not a max one. And that's the only way we'd have to consider paying him the max. We won't bid against ourselves.

Of course, watch Hayward get a matchable contract offer from a team and pull an Eric Gordon, "please just let me go" "I don't want to play for you anymore" etc.
