If the Jazz could draft any of these players, which do you prefer (right now) ??

Which player would you draft right now?

presuming otto porter can gain the 25-30lbs and improve.

and presuming poythress continues to improve his shooting and consistency.

whos more valuable?

Poythress is the only legitimate defender at the position we need it most, 3, its an area of concern because by the 2014 draft the league is going to be FLOODED with talent at SF. i contend him and favors would be able to offer Kanter or Al the best help defense we can afford. Also hes the type of 3 that pushes gordon into his natural position a true triple threat, space eater. on the wing. vacuum player.

Porter's defense > Poythress's defense.

This one is pretty clear cut down to two choices. The best wing is clearly Porter and the best point guard is clearly MCW. The only question here is which position is more important to the Jazz right now. I see a real need for both, but would personally pick MCW. However, there is almost no chance that either falls far enough for us to pick them. Trey Burke is the best fit of the players with a reasonable chance to be available to us, but that doesn't make him better than the rest.

MCW blows.

Burke and Smart are both much, much better. I wouldn't be surprised if McCollum is better too.

So the hidden agenda with this thread is to pose the question of whether it's better to have a starting line-up of:

Burks
Hayward/drafted wing
drafted wing/Hayward
Favors
Kanter

....or whether it's better to draft a "more natural PG" like Burke, MCW or even McCollum.

Hence, running a line-up like:

Burke
Burks
Hayward
Favors
Kanter

The reason I bring it up is because it looked to me as though Alec Burks outplayed Avery Bradley last night in the 4th quarter. So....maybe we don't need to skew the BPA logic in favor of a PG when we draft.

My own view is that getting a "more natural PG" is not as high a priority as getting the BPA, and I also think we could get the kid from Arkansas BJ Young with our later pick and still get a game-changer at the wing.

All of this is hypothetical, of course. If both the Jazz and Warriors make the playoffs, many of the players in the poll won't be available to us when we draft.

If it were me right now, I'd want an Otto Porter/BJ Young draft, resulting in a potential starting line-up of:

Burks / Young
Hayward / Burks
Porter / Carroll / Hayward
Favors / Kanter / FA
Kanter / Favors / FA

That's 6 young talents on rookie deals that mesh pretty well.

Oladipo, Burke, and Porter are in a three way tie for me. It would be amazing to get any of them. All will be long gone by 16+ so it will be up to KOC to try and finagle a higher pick somehow.

If they dont move up for poythress, i fully support the taking olynyk movement if we stand pat and go bpa, bpa. completes a filthy big rotation next year of

(Jefferson-Favors-Kanter-Olynyk)

Nab BJ Young with the Jazz pick the guard roto looks

(Mo-Gordon-Burks-Foye-Young)

Resign DMC and go sign Al Farooq Aminu (@market-value)to play the poythress role i just described about poythress on the first page.

(Aminu - DMC - Starvin Marvin)

At this stage, I'd say Porter looks more skilled, more versatile and more mentally tough than Poythress. Poythress has been disappointingly passive, like a certain Marvin Williams we know.

No way is Burks a full time PG. You saw it last night vs Celtics, he isn't an elite driver (Westbrook, Bledsoe) who can just drive and kick. He isn't an elite ball handler who can just dribble around defenders. Most importantly he doesn't have elite court vision and isn't a great passer or someone who can see things before they happen neither. He just isn't a natural set up man. He doesn't "set the table for his team" so to speak. He's OK as a part-timer, but definitely not a PG for the future for us.

If we were to let the young guys play next year and unintentially "tank" - then may be pick BPA in '13 and hope for a PG in '14. But I can't see the FO doing that.

On that basis I voted for Burke.

Porter
Burke
Oladipo
The rest

(I want to see Poythress play with some consistent fire before I value him higher than the rest. He's got EVERYTHING besides fire.

You can't win if you don't will it. Warriors matter in sports. Oladipo.

(Right as Indiana loses, regardless, there is ALWAYS room for a surefire top-flight perimeter defender and super garbage man)

I would be pumped to get Burke, though.

This is what I was saying. Him with Hayward as our scrappy guy, Favors as our uber-athletic defensive big, and Kanter as our tough banger is a nice, synergistic mix of defense, and possibly offense, if Kanter and Favors each develop a bit more.

And what if Burks at the point can work? Scary.

Oladipo will be long gone, though. I get the feeling he's just going to keep climbing, especially after the pre-draft process.

I bet he has a huge NCAA tourney too.. would place decent odds at Oladipo claiming NCAA tourney MVP.
