What's new

If the Jazz get the Number one pick, Kyrie Irving is our man!!

Holy ****, what? Besides UNC, what school has a better track record?

I should probably ask someone that actually knows something.

Name the last Duke player who was a bonafide superstar in the league. Had Kobe gone there, as he said he would have, then you might have an argument, but while Duke teams do great in the tourney, and they do get players drafted, they (former Duke players) are known to be lukewarm in the league. I don't think this is a knock on Duke at all, I think it's just the players they recruit. They try and recruit more team-oriented players that aren't the super athletic kids with huge egos that want to start right away and will leave after one year.

Having said all that, I would still give one of my reproductive organs to get Irving. Looks like he could be special.

Are we talking about just putting players in the league, or are we talking about how those players do in the league?

There are a lot of variables, but I wouldn't consider whether a player becomes a superstar or not one of them. Mostly because players like that are so rare and generally so all over the map that I attribute that to their special combination of qualities, not the school they went to.

We never said current. You did. Only now.

I don't care who was drafted from where in 1967. I'm trying to keep this side topic at least relevant, not sure how John Havlicek is relevant to who PRODUCES good players when we're talking about an upcoming draft.

Getting back to the point, Duke has produced enough good players in the last 20 years that I don't think we need to be concerned that Irving will be a bust. Of all the things to be concerned with a prospect, singling out the school itself (not the level of competition) is probably the dumbest thing you could be concerned with. Especially since Duke has been pretty damn good in that respect.
