What's new

If you can't celebrate, mas, I mean watch porn.

How so? After marriage, it's on! You can have all the sex you want.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark here... you aren't married. It's MUCH more complicated than that.

Mormons can have healthy sex lives. Many don't, for myriad reasons. But I think many of those issues can frequently be traced back to being told NO for years, and building up unreasonable expectations. Couples sometimes find themselves on completely different pages. But rather than talk about it, they repress it, just like they've been taught to. But men especially can't just go cold turkey, so they find other outlets.

Those reasons are called kids.

How can they never pay attention to you while watching a cartoon but always know when you sneak off to the bedroom?

Wow, daytime sex? How kinky.

Thanks.

There are so many flaws with this "study" that it's hard to believe the Journal of Economic Perspectives would even publish it.

..........►Ben Edelman used only one website, and may have data mined to make the numbers fit a narrative.

..........►There's no accounting for absence of porn in more conservative states, or pay-per-veiw subscriptions. Online porn is just one option of many.

..........►No regression for customers who signed up for broadband in order to access previously outlawed porn. At 5.47 per 1000 broadband subscribers (not residents), the numerator is so small in comparison that very tiny statistical adjustments would change the numbers dramatically. If just 2 out of every 1000 signed up for broadband just for porn, the number is inflated by nearly 50%.

..........►If 1/3rd of residents had broadband back then, that's only 5,000 out of 2,855,000 residents -- a pretty damn low. I guarantee the % that watches porn in every state is higher than this. Hell, there's a good chance a higher % of the population is directly involved in the porn industry.

LOL. Face it kid, Utahns are closest pervs. It happens in every place/society where sexuality is repressed. It's been that way since the beginning of time. Embrace it. The Hasidic Jews in NYC are having the same problem.

In Late May, Venishmartem held a “Filterthon” in Midwood, Brooklyn. Orthodox men were invited to bring their electronic devices for free installation of filtering software with features such as “skin color blocking,” which scans Web pages for immodest quantities of human skin tones, and “accountability solutions,” which send a user’s browsing history to a third party.

Perhaps you need a "browser buddy" to check your internet history.

You always seem to think for yourself so it's a little surprising that you're pushing this particular bigotry. What's causing the hate and resentment?

Attempting daytime sex? That's got to be as frustrating as teaching a pig to sing.

Fixed.

You're right, I'm not married.

So yeah, your post makes a lot of sense. I'm guessing a lot of folks do repress it. They don't communicate. Maybe they feel uncomfortable, ignorant, embarrassed... whatever. But I think it should be. I've dated a few girls seriously and this type of stuff was talked about. So I'd imagine even moreso when married.

How much did drug/alcohol use skyrocket after? How many walls have new holes in them? How many gallons of Ice cream were consumed more than regularly? How many Pizza joints couldn't fill orders? How many easy women got phone calls from certain guys for the first time in months?

Exactly. It's complicated when you're expected to be the model son or daughter of God. I know guys that would rather be miserable in their marriage than run the risk of disappointing their wives by appearing to not want to live up to a nebulous set of expectations.

To a certain extent, sure. But tact is a whole different convo. Married couples should discuss anything that leaves one or both feeling unfulfilled, disappointed, or resentful. That stuff doesn't go away. It festers.

Anyone have this urban legend study about Mormons n porn? I'd love to shred that b.s. Has to be b.s. yes?

I saw your rebuttal above and think it's schlock. Common sense tells us all that the "urban legend" isn't a legend, but just pure fact.

Have you seen the average woman from Boston? Men have no other choice but to turn to porn.

Truth.

As for why married guys look at porn... well, let's just say I know a guy. His wife refuses to have a threesome with Selena Gomez, nor will she even entertain the idea of hooking up with a random chick on the tubez. What is my friend to do? Sure, he loves a good roll in the hay with his wife, but if she's not willing to up the ante, then she can hardly blame him for finding a good threesome on Skinamax or on Keez. Am I right, or what?!

You're right - communication is a big, big part of it. But it's still only part of it. Some couples are just not sexually compatible. Others may feel one way about sex at 21 and completely different about it when they're 25. Others think sex is disgusting. These are all issues that have to be addressed, verbally and physically, before marriage - otherwise it's a crap shoot with the odds heavily against you.

I'm very glad I waited until I was 32 to make that committment and got the opportunity to sample life. Marriage is tough enough as it is.

I think a lot of it is guys and girls start doing it when they are younger and can't help each other out. Then the "addiction" carries through marriage.

It's because Utah doesn't allow access to pron any other way. In Californication you have a nudey magazine/video store on every corner. Utah laws don't stand for that...not to mention the demise of the video store altogether.

It doesn't appear that they weeded out the Mormon vs. non-Mormon buyer, or the single vs. non-single buyer either.

But yes "Creepy Mormon guys and their secret lives" is very much in play in the stats.

Sorry, I live in CA and magazine stands and video stores have largely gone the way of the dinosaur, just like in every other state and country. Would be interesting to see the stats broken out as you stated. I have a feeling porn is less watched by married couples vs. the national avg and perhaps spiked by single guys (and ladies). Probably a lot who might not want to just hook up with someone, but instead, use porn to satisfy their desires. May not seem like a big moral difference, but I think a lot of people see it that way.
