I'm 100% Certain the Jazz will do this...

Trade for a PG prior to Free Agency and let Hill walk.

Obviously, while trades can't officially be finalized before the moratorium is lifted on July 6, the Jazz can come to a trade agreement with another team(s) prior to the start of Free Agency. Too much is at stake with Hayward. Hill is not going to be the first PG domino to fall in FA, thus putting Utah in a delicate spot if they are trying to sign Hayward and Hill while Hill is trying to guage his value.

A trade however, allows Utah to go into Hayward negotiations with certainties, not "what-ifs". It's gonna be a name like Bledsoe or Rubio. Book it, it's going to go down like this.

Well, if Hayward wants Hill to come back, he can't expect the Jazz to have traded for another PG prior to free agency. Between Hill, Teague, Holliday and Teodosic, the Jazz should be able to sign a free agent.

The main competition for Hayward right now is Boston, and they're a franchise that's going through a transition. They probably want to trade IT (who is their best player), they're probably going to hand the team over to a rookie at the end of this season, and if they don't trade for another All Star before they meet with Hayward, I'm not sure they're a compelling proposition.

We have a better chance at keeping Hayward telling him we are going to sign Hill imo. I've been through the trades 100 times... nothing there that I think I'd do unless Rubio or Bledsoe is traded on the super cheap. I'm not convinced Hill gets the 100+ M dollar offer he was hoping for.

I am 100% sure they will try and add a big name via trade before free agency. I am not sure it will be a PG they are after and not sure it matters. I don't find it likely that Hill will be back.

Good post, I probably should have included this scenario as well. If Utah can land a big enough name via trade, it doesn't necessarily have to be at PG. One way or another, I just see Utah really working their trade options in an attempt to show Hayward just how much they've improved. It seems like solid logic: Instead of telling Hayward who they hope to sign or lay out a plan on how they anticipate taking the next step, they acquire an asset or 2 before the pitch even starts and give him a tangible reason to return.

Or make him feel like they're REPLACING HIM ALREADY!

Can't win, yo.

I don't see anything major happening... maybe a trade for one rotation player in the 3-6M range. There are deals I could see happening but draft has to play out first.

I agree with this. The best thing the Jazz can do is clear Burks off their payroll and tell Hayward they have money to bring back Hill and Ingles, while young players like Hood, Lyles and Exum continue to develop. Then the Jazz will make a move to bring in a solid rotation big man.

Three way win now trade... Lyles & Diaw to Porty, Burks, Vonleh, Napier to BKN, Harkless and Kilpatrick to Utah. BKN gets a few young prospects/reclamation projects... think they have to send KJ Mcdaniels expiring our way... we may have to send out #42.

We slightly lower our salary getting a small ball four, wing player on a reasonable deal... Get rid of injury prone Burks.. Porty gets out of luxury tax. We clear room for a different PF prospect because Lyles is soft as charmin.

Not sure I love it, but a deal like that for a solid guy is what we would do... imo. Not a megadeal.

I don't think we do anything unless it moves the needle. This doesn't do anything, just moving pieces for the sake of looking busy.

This makes sense to me. It's logically sound. The main reason it doesn't go down is because the Jazz likely will have a good beat on what Hayward is going to do before he does it. I think that Hayward will likely give us the heads up if he is out. If he is staying, it will mostly be negotiation tactics and I trust DL will not make it about money, but about future.

So, I don't think we do something desperate for Hayward NOT KNOWING whether he is staying or not. We are either in it with him or without him. But it's sound logic.

Don't act like this idea is yours. David Locke has been talking about this for weeks. Get your own ideas.

I doubt it. Making sure we have a PG under contract next season isn't going to sway Hayward one way or another. He either believes in the overall vision of the front office to keep building this team towards a championship or he doesn't. He will be looking at the bigger picture of what the team will look like over the course of his next contract. Not necessarily what it will look like immediately.

I don't really follow/listen to Locke unless I'm catching a Jazz game on the radio. This may be unfathomable to you, but sometimes more than one person can arrive at the same conclusion without influencing each other.

Reminds me of when I was younger and was involved in a project where I described a process of software development process that no one ever told me about but based it on common sense. (I'm not a programmer)... The developer there was like.."yeah, we know.. you described the software development life cycle"..I'm like "ummm..ok" then went home to look it up.. Either way I felt dumb.

Truth is one can come up with similar concepts. However, when those ideas and concepts are already commonly known, it becomes stale news to those who have already heard about it in depth. Although not even Locke could guarantee 100% certainty.

Westbrook is the one leaving get it threw your thick skulls. There is no better landing spot then

Gobert
WTF ever okay maybe Diaw an JJ again
Hayward
Hood
Westbrook

We ARE getting Westbrook cause it makes the most sense TO HIM. #Westbrook2017 #Championship2018

Well you are saying basically word for word what he said. There was a thread already about this scenario and going after Ricky Rubio from a few weeks back.

You created this thread like you discovered the atom.
