What's new

I'm a little worried about Conley

You say this like I didn't watch Rubio play defense last year. Whatever advantage he may of had defensively in the past, those days are gone. He can sometimes be pesky on ball, but he gave up fighting through screens and lost track of his defensive assignment constantly. His height advantage earned him 10 blocks last year. Mike Conley had 22.
The Jazzs defense was to funnel everything to Rudy. People could just shoot over conoly if they are a taller PG. Frank Layden says, "you cant teach height". Taller players typically are better defenders. TYPICALLY. Rubio was also heavier, couldnt get pushed around as much.

Besides, you are referring to block shots between Rubio and Conoly... are you high? What's the difference between 22 blocks and 10 blocks a game? One was bad at blocking shots and the other person was worse? What kind of point are you trying to prove?

Rubio was a massive liability on defense last year, no matter what his measurements are. The blocks are important not that they show Conely was good at blocking shots, but that he apparently was more effective at bothering shots than the taller Rubio. If we are allowing teams to post up Conley, the entire scheme has failed.

Whatever arguable benefits Rubio gave us defensively are simply swallowed by the offensive upgrade of Conley.

You're argument is stupid. Rubio was statistically good on defense, ask David Locke.

Rubio's job was to play the perimeter and let Favors and Gobert block shots. How many shots would you expect anyone to get on the Jazz if you already are playing defense where you WANT the other team to drive into the lane and take 5-15 foot shots?

You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

Rubio wasnt a liability on defense and far from a massive one.

I think a lot of people saw him in matchups against fox, Westbrook etc, where it was clear, that he didn't have the footspeed to keep up with them. But in overall defense over the whole regular season, the numbers say he wasn't a liability. Hewasnt the best rated guard defensively in our team, but he wasn't a clear liability by any stretch.

The point was his defense, not offense.

Yeah, Rubio’s offense killed our defense. His bricks got other teams going in transition. His lack of gravity left more opponents in position to get more defensive rebounds and run against us.

Not sure why you can’t make the connection. But, on the other hand, it is likely as difficult for me to account for anyone who would consciously use words like “derpy”. So I guess we’re even.

Your logic is so derpy, by your stupid logic James Harden is the best defender in the league

Conley + Gobert vs. Rubio + Gobert is apples to apples. Try to stay on topic.

I haven't watched a lot of Conley's defense in the past, and maybe it will get better in the regular season, but through preseason he is MUCH worse than Rubio.

You haven't watched Conley's defense in the past, even though he's been in the NBA for over 11 years. And your judgement of him has been what you have seen through the pre-season?

Well my friend, you opinion of anyone means nothing. You've never payed attention to someone that has been a starting PG in the Western Conference for over a decade and just noticed he showed up on the Jazz roster, so thought you'd watch him and you're not satisfied based on his pre-season play.
Quit watching basketball right now. Your not a fan, and I don't even know what you are. But your opinion is garbage. You have never watched Conley play in over a decade!!!?? Wow. I wouldn't be bragging about that right about now, and I definitely wouldn't be formulating an opinion.
