What's new

I'm at the Zion's bball center, players working out....

That is not allowed is it? The Jazz can open up their facilities but they cannot start formal practices (drills) until camp official starts right?

How is it any different than Kanter working with Malone during the off season?

It's not like they have the formal/required camp and practices going. This is all optional.

Ty could have been working with FA's that were showcasing their skills.

I don't know what happens if the players ask for guidance from the team during the off-season???

Just on the court with coaching staff seems like pushing the envelope.

Hope they don't get fined.

On a side note, all of the players are getting here early, at least compared to normal, and even the coaching staff is getting involved. Does this look like tanking to you? Are they losing on purpose? It's not just the 'core' players either, it's the 'worthless' bench that's there. I guarantee the only way they are picking top five is if they pull a major upset in the lottery or they trade up (not this year). OR if Golden State has a core player that falls with an injury. (isn't Andre Iguodala known for injury?)

Last Friday on the Spence Eccles, oops Checkets, Show Dennis Lindsey said that the NBA had rules for how many could work out together with a coach present and such. He said they were going to work within those rules and one way to get around the rules was to invite all of the FA's in to work-out with the regulars. It served two purposes 1- to let the regulars run drills and practise against real players, and 2-gave the coaching staff an opportunity to see FA's that they'd like to bring into camp.

My personal belief is there is a third reason. I believe Lindsey is aware that Utah is routinely ranked the least desirable destination for NBA players and he is trying to change those opinions by bringing in players, and coaches to see the city and meet people in the organization. Thus the FA mini camp, the college coaches coming in for pre-draft workouts, the 80 something pre-draft workouts etc.....The FA's at the Jazz unofficial pre-training camp also helps this cause.

What it looks like to me is our Front Office covering all bases.

They see two scenarios. One is the young guns really take off, and we surprise a lot of people. Two we really struggle, which is more likely, with a young core, and
position ourselves in the draft of the decade. Either way I think they are ok with it. They really are in a win/win with a 3rd wild card being the GS pick.

Even if we want to tank this year, or realize we won't get anywhere this year, we can't waste this opportunity to develop the core.
If this year is a total waste playoff/winning wise, we can't waste time with these guys. If we do get a stud next year in the draft,
our core needs to get their seasoning/licks/lessons out of the way this year so we can take off next year.

My point is that the entire team is motivated, not just the core players. This tells me that the coaches/management have told all of them that they will have a chance to compete for time on the floor. This is either a bold faced lie, which will only work for so many years in a row, or it is true, and they - including the management - want to win games, not tank.

They do want to win. They just built a situation where they will win in the future.

Again I think we want to win games if we can. We are preparing to try, and win.
I don't think we are !00% into tanking. Although I do believe the Front Office knows
we could potential pile up the losses. Either way if they prepare to win, try the
best they can this year it will help us in the future.
