I know everybody wants to give Gobert all the credit for the great defense of Utah ,but the athletic length of these 4 out front really makes it easier for Gobert to hover behind those already long arms in front of him

Last year I knew when Exum got promoted, the defense was going to swarm harder on offenses ,but I worried they wouldn't have enough offense themselves ,and it was true BUT these guys are year older and with a preseason of practicing together they are ready to be hell and long on defense and ready to create offense thru defense

If Utah is midpack on offense and tops on defense ,they can be the *big riser* this upcoming year

I think the jazz are the anti-warriors. when the warriors go small it won't effect the jazz with their length and ability to guard multiple positions.

I give Favors more credit than I give any of those players you listed. Favors allows Rudy to Gamble on D. Rudy can contest everything without fear of it leading to an easy basket in the paint. Those guys are playing good D as well, but Favors/Gobert is the heart of our D-fense.

and when Warriors are playing Curry,Thompson,Igoudala,Barnes ,and Green ...how is the heart of the defense going to match up against them ....pack the paint while the warriors let the 3 ball fly

Why would the Jazz pack the paint when they have Gobert? That is what he does is let them gamble on the perimeter.

In that scenario the only one who can burn them is Green on the three, but we can cover and on offense even if we dont score Gobert and Favors will eat the o-boards alive. Plus Favors can just back down Barnes all day for easy baskets.

Our defense really improved when Exum was promoted, not to mention milsap too who had some of the best defensive stats on our team.

Being able to switch on them would be huge. Especially if Draymond Green is playing center and dragging Gobert outside the paint. The other 4 players besides Gobert must contain the drivers. Players like Frank Kaminsky, or even Myles Turner, would probably be unplayable against the Warriors. Kelly Oubre would be a nice weapon to have against the Warriors. At 6'7" with his 7'2" wingspan and fairly quick feet.

Exum PG
Burks SG
Oubre SF
Hayward PF
Gobert C

ANTI-WARRIOR BUSTERS

Rudy deserves the credit he gets. Without him, we are very much still in rebuild mode as a lottery team. The defensive foundation of the team is Rudy/Favors, and they make it a lot easier for our perimeter players. Don't want to take anything away from Exum, but Rudy is the guy we can't afford to lose, or everything changes.

ANTI-WARRIOR BUSTERS

I had more of a picture PG) Exum
SG) Burks
SF) Hood
PF) Hayward
C ) Gobert
basically all 4 players with the exception of Gobert can handle the the ball and run the fast break

I wrote about this a couple of months ago... which means it's ripe for repeating:

This is the first offseason of Favors' career where he's known he preparing for full-time duty as a power forward. That's certainly going to alter his training regimen. It's safe to expect he's getting ready to chase around the stretchy forwards on the perimeter.

Also, to the OP, I still think it's safe to assume that we're missing a perimeter defender. I'd quickly swap Trey Burke for a (non-PG) specialist like DeMarre. There's no problem, in terms of offense, with the following 5-man group: Hood/Hay/Carroll/Favors/Gobert.

Crazy how quickly jazzfanzers did a 180 and started over-rating the **** out of our perimeter D.

I don't think anyone overrated the perimeter defense ,but is pointing out the length of what Utah can put on the floor and minimizing them when two of them, Exum and Hood just finished their 1st year and can expect after a summer to review their defense on tape should be better. Burks was able to still observe from the sideline what he can improve on and Hayward was definitely better after playing with the Olympic team all summer.
Memphis is always near the leaders in team defense and Gasol is the unquestioned leader, similar to Bulls and Noah ,but still it takes the team ....meaning Gobert is not playing defense all by himself out there.

0% down with every idea that has Hayward moving down to the 2. The dude held his own against every 3 in the league last year, had his best statistical year of his career, and now we want to move him back down to the 2 when we already have Hood and Burks?

Moronic. Either help Millsap develop a three-point shot, or sign a solid-defending backup 3 for Hayward (a la Harmless). Or grab one in the draft. No big money or trades for another 3 pls.

the only thing that Hood has done on the defensive end is demonstrate that he isn't gonna be below average. In other words, if he continues to work, then he shouldn't be a minus player on that side of the ball, like some of the darft experts were saying. That's great, but it isn't making me backflip about length, defensive stoutness, etc. etc.

I agree.
We could lose any one player and be ok..... As long as that player aint rudy
