I'm excited about Exum ,Burks,Hood and Hayward's defense on the perimeter

Crazy how quickly jazzfanzers did a 180 and started over-rating the **** out of our perimeter D.
 
I don't think anyone overrated the perimeter defense ,but is pointing out the length of what Utah can put on the floor and minimizing them when two of them, Exum and Hood just finished their 1st year and can expect after a summer to review their defense on tape should be better. Burks was able to still observe from the sideline what he can improve on and Hayward was definitely better after playing with the Olympic team all summer.
Memphis is always near the leaders in team defense and Gasol is the unquestioned leader, similar to Bulls and Noah ,but still it takes the team ....meaning Gobert is not playing defense all by himself out there.
 
0% down with every idea that has Hayward moving down to the 2. The dude held his own against every 3 in the league last year, had his best statistical year of his career, and now we want to move him back down to the 2 when we already have Hood and Burks?

Moronic. Either help Millsap develop a three-point shot, or sign a solid-defending backup 3 for Hayward (a la Harmless). Or grab one in the draft. No big money or trades for another 3 pls.

the only thing that Hood has done on the defensive end is demonstrate that he isn't gonna be below average. In other words, if he continues to work, then he shouldn't be a minus player on that side of the ball, like some of the darft experts were saying. That's great, but it isn't making me backflip about length, defensive stoutness, etc. etc.

Rudy deserves the credit he gets. Without him, we are very much still in rebuild mode as a lottery team. The defensive foundation of the team is Rudy/Favors, and they make it a lot easier for our perimeter players. Don't want to take anything away from Exum, but Rudy is the guy we can't afford to lose, or everything changes.

We could lose any one player and be ok..... As long as that player aint rudy

I have been saying Hayward is a three for years now. (Mainly cause I wanted Burks in that starting sg position though)

I thought of Hayward as more of a 2 than a 3 until last season. Hayward proved me wrong in a big way. I never would have thought that he would handle himself that well against 3's on both sides of the court. He was super impressive.

By all the NBA kinds of evidence, Hayward became a man this past year. And he also married and had a baby with a teenager.

Seriously. The cure to small ball is slow down the pace, then Gobert in the middle, Favors patrolling the FT line, and everyone else swarming the 3. Take away fast breaks, the 3, and layups and they have to beat you on mid-range jumpers with Favors in their face. Done and done.
