I'm The biggest Sloan homer ever

Sloan is neither the devil nor Jesus. I've seen him say things that reflected unbelievably poor judgment and I've seen him coach like the best there ever was. Right now, we're seeing more of the former than the latter. As I've said before and I think will always apply, he's an architect and a philosopher, not a strategist. When **** goes south, he's rather poor at correcting anything. And Sloan's system isn't unique, it's the Flex Offense. What makes it unique is the fact that an NBA coach is running the principles of that offense so rigidly and can usually get his players to run it with such precision at this level. He didn't invent new basketball principles, generally he's just using existing ones and there is definitely a beauty in that.

The players own plenty of this too, I've always thought Millsap's ability to set picks was rather ho-hum and Al still appears to only have a modicum of understanding of what they're trying to do out there. The Jazz are not running the exact same sets that they used to, but certain principles are always there (everyone screening, everyone passing, everyone moving) and I'm not sure Jefferson will ever get it in the way the Jazz need him to.

Sloan can turn a bunch of overachievers with no star power into a .500 team. That's good and fine. But when it comes to championship aspirations, I'd too rather have Deron than Sloan. I don't know that there's a rift, but when things aren't going right I can see their personalities clash very hard.

But, what about Sloan? He made his pay check running a sturdy offense through two of the greatest players in the history of the game! What has he done in the past DECADE besides coach that surprising 41 win season? I'll admit that the guy has insight and skill. I don't think there is any debating that. But, his lauded past deserves a similar asterisk, IMO.

The thing that drives me crazy is how every Sloan team of the past decade has had a string of games where 'they just gotta learn things the hard way, dammit, and run the offense with pride'. I want more flexibility out of my coaching staff than that. I want a clear message on all levels/scales of this organization: we're going to do whatever it takes to win every game; the coach and his staff is going to improvise; the players need to improvise. Isn't that what the flex offense is REALLY about?

I don't think Sloan realizes how his inflexibility translates into the lack of flow within the offense; things feel too pre-determined. I don't want to hear about how that is TOTALLY the fault of the players.

The jazz are slumping due to lack of intrest and passion and not running the offense,not inflexible coaching if they run the offense they win if not they lose.

I saw something posted on another sports message board that Deron does not like Sloan at all and will leave in 2012 if Sloan is still coaching the team. This guy's source is pretty good.

I think Deron will lead the Jazz to a championship before Sloan will.

I've seen Deron state that he respects our staff, we have a great staff, etc. On the other hand I've seen him post some messages
that feel like he is fustrated with some aspects of the system.

Remember Karl and John butted heads with Sloan, but they both loved each other too. It's probably the same with Deron.
Also, remember Deron "hated" Sloan his first year here.

I dont know if I agree with the last part, but I do completely agree with the stuff about Williams being frustrated. he absolutely is.
