Impeach Stern

All hail Stern as NBA owner. Now retire and get the team sold.

I've had my own hatred for Stern over the years. The way that games are officiated makes it hard to take the league seriously sometimes. The Miaimi championship and the Lakers championship over the Kings were extremely shady in my eyes, and I honestly believe he has at times manipulated games. Not fixed, but definately giving an edge by having games officiated in a way that I consider dishonest.

Having said all that, I think there has been a lot written and said over the last week that is completely off base, and not just by fans on message boards. To me, the real mistake here is the NBA allowing a trade to be announced as a done deal before it has been approved. Knowing what we know now, not only was Stern right to 86 the Laker trade, but it would have been a sham if he hadn't. I, for one, find it quite refreshing to witness the recent events, and I believe it gives the league some credibility after a lockout that was supposed to be largely about competetive balance.

As far as Stern retiring, he just took a huge step up in my book. Not only did he stop a questionable trade that would have allowed the Lakers to grab yet another top player, but he also made it possible for the other LA to acquire him instead. It is one of my favorite dreams for the Lakers to someday have to play in the shadow of the Clippers. If that actually comes to fruition over the next few years, Stern will be a hero in my book, and all will be forgiven.

When I said retire, I meant retire as an owner. He did extremely well to ensure the Hornets got the best deal. But the league shouldn't be having these kinds of controls over a team. The CBA is now set. It should be abused and exploited within all its legal parameters without the appearance of the league trying to force a particular vision upon it.

I'm glad Stern did what he did. And he accorded himself superbly in the "role" of owner. But he needs to extricate himself from this process as quickly as possible.

Agree 100%.

Yeah with the deal New Orleans got, Stern looks like a ****ing genious now.

ETA: STILL think that Paul is way overrated and injury prone. GREAT deal for N.O.
