I know we have been comparing kessler to rudy a lot for many reasons but another way I think they are similar is their work ethic. I always thought Rudy was a beast at working out and working hard on the court. I dont know much about Kessler but I get the feeling that he wont get complacent. I think he will continue to work hard to get better for a long long time. Doesn't seem like a lazy rest on his laurels type. I have told the story numerous times before but I remember going to a jazz scrimmage right after gobert was drafted. He was insane in the scrimmage. A complete competitive lunatic. He was pissing off all of his teammates because he was playing like it was game 7 of the finals. Then the whistle would blow and he would flip the switch to off. That and the fact that he covered the whole court on defense during that scrimmage convinced me that we had something special (and I was no fan of us getting him on draft night and knew nothing about him but thought he would suck prior to seeing that scrimmage).

Im hoping and wishing Kesslers competitiveness and hard work at a Rudy Gobert level into existence.

Most top level NBA players are just ultra-competitive, up to the level of insanity. But remember that not all manifest that competitiveness in same ways. Some show it more clearly than others. All you need to look at is GSW and see how their arguably two most competitive guys Steph and Draymond manifest it in totally different ways. Other one is projecting his emotions all the time and the other one is very toned down most of the time, just "doing his job", until in the biggest moments when you can see him lose his shell.

If there is anything I need to confirm my hyperbolic expectations of the rook is that some inside reports surface that reveal this side of him. That he has some huge aspirations and is just driven towards them.

This news looks like some kind of entertainment. I compare them to the information on the SlotEire site. It can be as interesting and funny as watching Twitter news. But I even enjoy spending time at the slot more than reading the news.

The player is also a human being. Any changes around him can affect him as well. Including changing his game.
If he hadn't been traded, maybe a younger Gobert with an offensive game wouldn't have shown up.

except his "offensive game" is basically just a poor man's version of Rudy's "offensive game". he only scores on lay ups and dunks/put backs, and doesn't create anything for himself (again except of course on those put backs)

now, he is young and has plenty of room to improve, but he's not a rudy with an offensive game at this point in his career.

It seems to me that he has more touch and finesse than Rudy does. Yes, he’s still limited offensively but again he’s a rookie who has plenty of time to grow. He did a spin move the other night that was super nice even though it got blocked he grabbed the offensive rebound and dunked it.

probably does have more touch than Rudy, but the result is pretty similar - rudy is stronger and more explosive which makes up for the lack of touch.

Rudy also can’t catch so there is that. I think we are arguing semantics. Kessler at his age vs Gobert at the same age isn’t even close.

Rudy would also do a lot more with dribble drives and attempting some things. People also forget how graceful his pick n rolls could be even with his non-dunk finishes. Gobert doesnt get enough credit for some of his difficult finishing.

It's still early and I'm sure he will develop something, but his offensive game is charmin soft right now.

Both of these shots are good examples. Dude just uses zero percent of his body to create contact. You'd like to see someone 7'1 w/ a 7'6 wingspan who is also coordinated to put his body into someone.
