I haven't been into sports cards in 20 years but DM45 has changed that. Here's a link with what's currently going on ebay:

Is there anyone here who dabbles in sports cards, and any advice on which ones to go with? Been wanting to make this thread for awhile but not before I grabbed a few for myself. I went with the Panini that has the jersey and ball patches, solely because they are numbered.

The blue/gold Panini Revolution cards are by far the best looking but they're not numbered and judging by the quality of the signatures they looked rushed like he signed a mountain of them.

Looking at going autographed rookie cards from other greats, of course MJs go for hundreds if not over $1,000 each. But other greats like Dirk, signed rookie cards, I've seen go for pretty cheap, but they aren't numbered and have the autographs guaranteed like these modern Paninis do.

I have been collection here and there for a while. I did it when I was young and then stopped. My boys picked it up and I started again. So a couple things I can tell you.

Stay away from Sticker Autos. The ones where they sign their name on a sticker and it's placed on a card. The buy back value of those are way low compared to the price. If looking for Autos go with on card auto. Where you know the player actually held the card.

Look for prizm rookie cards. Out of all the cards you linked to, the best set is the prizm set. And you want to look for a DM silver prizm like the ones here. Prizm silvers seem to hold their value. If you can afford it. Invest in a graded one PSA or BGS. If you can afford a gem 10 PSA or 9.5 BGS than do it. Graded cards can double the value and sometimes more. https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_od...0&_nkw=donovan+mitchell+silver+prizm&_sacat=0

The best sets for basketball cards are Panini Immaculate and Panini National Treasures, so I've been told. Those are the most valuable rookie autos you can buy. But also the most expensive. However, they have not been released yet this year. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rudy-Gober...517417?hash=item4b2c769a29:g:KfgAAOSw6VRaAUTL

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Great info! How can you find out the mintage numbers of the prizm cards? Do they release that info eventually?

Seems to me money is better spent on the signed patch cards, they are less expensive, autographed and numbered! xx/25 or xx/149 etc.

The non autographed silver prizms go for more!? Why? I bet they even print more of them than 149

Yes every month they release card beckett magazine, where the value is listed.

You would think so. But isn't always the case. Value of a card is what a person will buy it for. As noted above, in the beckett magazines they are usually very close to the prices on Ebay. But the bottom line is are you collecting to collect as a hobby or are you planning on selling after? If it's a hobby buy what you like. If investing then pay attention to what is selling and at what price. The silver DMs I linked to are the hot rc card right now. They do have blue ones and purple ones that are serial numbered. Look for the Prizm Gold that is /10. Or the cracked ice one that is /25. But again, it depends on if it's a hobby or an investment.

If your looking for a DM auto then I would suggest an Absolute or Flawless one right now.

Hi, I'm well-versed in sports cards. What sucks about most rookie jerseys is they're often EVENT-WORN and not game-used. Definitely a difference from a collector standpoint.

Low-number autos command highest prices and pro-uniform autos (showing a player in his NBA uniform and not his college uniform) usually book/sell for higher. Also, on-card autos are more desirable than sticker autos (sticker autos are when a player sits down and signs a sheet of stickers and at a later date Panini affixes the sticker to the card). High-end products are almost always on-card autos (where the player actually signs the card); Panini sets like Impeccable, National Treasures and Timeless Treasures are always on-card.

What sucks is Panini has a monopoly on NBA cards. They're the only company that can make new product showing an NBA player in his NBA uniform (as they have the exclusive NBA license). In the past, brands like Topps and Upper Deck made great NBA sets but now they're unable to (Upper Deck still makes a few sets showing players in college uniforms but it's not quite the same).

Prizm has a lot of parallel cards. Here's the checklist and it lists the parallel sets and what they're numbered out of: https://www.cardboardconnection.com/2017-18-panini-prizm-basketball-nba-cards

I bought one before Christmas, its a game worn jersey with his autograph rc.

That's a nice card. Panini Court Kings usually has nice designs in their auto sets. I really like the Donruss jersey/autos /75 as well. I opened a case and pulled a Ball as well as a Kennard. And a Bell. I obtained a Fox as well. The Mitchell is selling around $80-$100. I might have to get a Donruss jersey/auto of him because I love the design.

Thanks bro, I bidded and won that one with $140 being the cost with shipping. I feel it will sky rocket it value, that is my hope at least.

The back of one of his rookie cards mentions him joking about playing for the salt lake city bees.. Could he would he should he? The next Bo Jackson?

Aaaaaaand got my Mitchell card! Only took 4 packs, haha. I know, it's just a base rookie card, nothing special, but I'm sure happy.

Been unpacking from my move and going through my old card collection from the late 80s to early 90s. I have multiple cards of pretty much all of the all stars and HOF players from that era. These are a few of the Jazz cards I found right off the bat. Wonder if any of these are worth anything (not just these ones - I have thousands.)
