What's new

Is Favors in the long-term plans at this point?

If you think you can get Parker in free agency AND you think it's worth a max offer, jettisoning Ricky and not re-signing Favors is the path.

I am not quite sold on that plan. But that's the easiest way to get there. Three birds (what should be done with Rubio? What should be done with Favors? Who is our 4 moving forward?), one stone.

Ignore the cap space aspect... btw moving Ricky and not re-signing Favs allows us to get to max cap space easily by managing Exum's cap hold. I honestly don't think there is anyone worth creating space for... so just ignore that.

I do think we should look to acquire more picks... I was happy you mentioned our success on mid level picks... we don't need to acquire lotto picks, but give ourselves more chances to acquire great talent.

Fit 100% matters... Favs and Gobert don't work long term... The run we are on should show that we can use less talented players that space the floor and get a huge improvement.

Managing the Favs, Gobert, Ricky balance is going to be tough... I doubt we bring all three back next year. Time will tell, but I'd be willing to bet Favs isn't willing to come back next year unless he is starting and playing starter minutes. Those three overlapped like 6 total minutes last night and it was clear Quin wanted it out ASAP.
Yep, I think Ricky is the odd one out not Favors. Or at least shouldn't play with those guys. I think Favor's and Gobert can play together just fine and/or play slightly off set depending on matchups like last night where I think we did okay in that game.

We still need picks but they are not a reason to dump good players that are helping us win for. Now if the front office knows something about Favors not coming back, sure trade him at the deadline. Although I would rather us trade him for a player not future picks.

I just don't think we're likely to get more value for Favors than his very own expiring contract + the talent he adds to our roster for this year. I'm not interested in a couple of weak 2nd-round picks -- I'd rather he help push us back into the playoffs as a 4th-6th seed + help us pull a first-round upset.

But if a first-round pick came calling without any salary burden beyond this season.... I'd pull the trigger.

I know this view is unpopular, but I don't think we should be trading a player who's been with us for 7 years for a mere second round pick, unless he wants out. It's just really disrespectful.

Haywad helped us win his rookie year. He was already good on both ends and had 34 and 32 pt. games. Favors and Hood are just as risky as high picks, with their propensity for injury, but with picks you free up money also.
Hayward did not help us win his rookie year. Maybe in a couple games but across the season he hurt us more than he helped. 90% or more of rookies are a liability on the court across the season.

I disagree on that Favors and Hood are higher risks. Most players drafted don't turn out as well as them and even if they do it's after a few years.

It isn’t a secret that he is 95% likely to leave...

Agree with NAOS doe... if it was just a second you keep Favs.

I think what could happen is that we move him and take some salary to get a first or prospect.

I don’t think there is anyone that is worth going after in free agency.

We might still look to move Ricky doe... it is partly about playing time for AB, Hood, Royce, and Neto.

Here is my latest crappy trade idea... Ricky and Favs to Phoenix for Dudley and Monroe plus the Milwaukee first they got in the Bledsoe deal.

Dudley and Monroe would both be good options to fill in if we have injuries. Dudley is owed 9.5 next year so we clear a little cap space for next year.

I just doubt the Jazz are looking to pull the plug on Rubio. I think they really want to get full off-season with him.

If Thad Young was a couple years younger and on a good contract, I'd totally consider sending Favors for Indiana for Thad plus filler. I think he would fit well with Myles Turner (man, imagine if Indiana picked Lyles and we picked Turner which we were rumoured to do....*sigh*) and I think his three-point shooting and perimeter ability would suit the roster decently.

Historically he's been a good defender, but truthfully I haven't seen him play much this season. He's scored well though, and passed well, and continues to collect steals at a high clip for a forward.

I bet they keep him till the end of the season. But I doubt he'll ever be a good fit, and he'll probably be offloaded in the off-season if Exum is retained.

Tell me some examples of player who are really good that have not fit together? What makes those players not fit together?

There are many... frequently the sum of the parts don’t add up.

Lack of shooting, an obvious defensive weak link, or too many guys that need th ball are the culprits.

Minny, OKC

Honestly the Heat teams were way more talented than their performance... things didn’t fit perfectly but those were super duper stars and they were elite defensively.

Lack of shooting/space murders offenses.

Probably true. I just think DM might be better served as more of a Pg and would open up some more time to feed to our army of wing players.
