Is Favors in the long-term plans at this point?

I'm also not too interested in some kind of charity thing for Favors. If we are trying to win this year (we are), and he gives us the best chance of winning (which, relative to these proposals you've just authored, he probably does), then I'd rather keep him than get peanuts. Even if it means he walks and takes his salary with him.

But, again, if we get into first-round pick territory, then I'm keen.

I just wonder if playing the way we should (jerebko or Thabo starting and a spread floor) and getting a guy like Monroe, who isn't as good but would not have a problem buying into a bench role, might actually make us better.

If we don't find something soon I'd just tell Favs to come off the bench and we can try and find Rudy/Favs minutes later in the game when Rubio isn't on the floor. It is just weird for us to neuter our offense for 6-8 minutes a game.

I agree !00%. We're not only neutering our offense but we're handcuffing Fav's. He's clearly better at the 5 and will drive up his value the more time he plays there. If he is auditioning for his next contract I can't see why this would be a problem.

I mostly agree, actually. But I haven't completely lost hope in Rubio (and whatever combos he's featured in) -- unlike a lot of people around here.

I was never a big fan... but I appreciate the patience.
 
Looking at the market for point guards and remembering where Minny was with needing to dump salary... I'm wondering if we could have given a second instead of OKC pick.

Would have been nice to wait until hayward left and then addressed (or not addressed) the issue. I guess they kind of had us over a barrell... I just keep thinking that if we didn't trade for him who was going to take that salary... it was clear they were done with him... end of ramblings.

The market for him was basically zero going into last season and up through the All-Star break. I was calling for the jazz to pick him up at that time.

I still think he'll secure a spot on our team. If it's off-the-bench, then fine. He's a plus-defender and a ball-mover... our team is built on heavy doses of both.

(Also, he's looked great during stretches of this early season.... and a part of me wonders why we're wringing our hands so much, so quickly afterward)
 
The only guys we have commitments with in 2019/2020 are Gobert, Ingles, Mitchell, Bradley, O'Neale (unguarateed), and our draft picks. Maybe Exum? Maybe Hood? I expect DL to maintain maximum roster flexibility for that off-season. Expiring contracts (notably: Favors, this year; Rubio, next year) have value to us.

I would look to take on salary for next year (and get assets in return) and then strike in 2019 FA for that reason. Hood's deal (if he's here) needs to be tradeable.

Denver, Milwaukee, Washington, Portland are in precarious salary positions starting next year... Miami too, but their contracts are all long-term.
