Is Favors to London a possibility?

Well, I don't know who's on the select team, so maybe that explains things, but, I'd think Monroe's resume is much better than Favors. and I would think that is more how they choose players rather than who would be better for the team concept.

But, what about???

Aldridge
KG
Hibbert
Bynum

Are these guys disqualified, injured as well?

They're not on the select team, and Favors is both a better defender and better physical specimen than all of them.

...

And they're not on the select team.

I thought the select team was just practice fodder and guys who might be considered next time.

Only one I know for sure is that Bynum turned down an invite. I think KG also turned down 2008, and that usually doesn't bode well for someone wanting back in (not saying KG would even want back on the team).

Aldridge - Out after having hip surgery
KG - Never in consideration, probably a mutual thing with him and USA Basketball
Hibbert - Has played for Jamaica. He's asked to be released from Jamaica so that he can play for the USA, but I'm not sure where that process is at
Bynum - Declined because of his past knee issues

Are these guys disqualified, injured as well?

See the bold above

EDIT: KG was on the team in 2000 then declined in 2004. On go-around was enough for him.

Favors will be competing against Cousins, Monroe and McGee for that last spot. He has a good chance but he needs to show that he deserves it.

Out of those 3, only Monroe would be a challenge. Cousins is too risky for Team USA to take, McGee is just dumb. Monroe is a classy dude and is kind of a European big. I still think Favors should get in because his defense is what they like out of big men.

The select team is merely a practice team. They choose young guys so they can scout them for the next summer olympics 4 years later. Also, established, non-olympic all stars don't want to waste their time playing on a practice team.

I think its still possible they just add another all star who was too qualified to be on the select team.

I always love watching USA basketball so the thought of the team being possibly weaker and having Favors play doesn't sit too well with me. But as a Jazz fan, that of course would be amazing.

So... we have a player that has quite a nice opportunity to play in the olympics with some of the best players in the WORLD, has been chosen to play with them, but yet he plays behind.....a fat, lazy, defense-less terd (but hes a nice guy so give him a break). <3 Ty's rotations

@ArashMarkazi: Lamar Odom tells ESPNLA he will skip Team USA this summer and work with trainers in L.A. and focus on this season

This is another piece of good news re: Favors joining USA team.

Would be amazing to get a new/improved Favors back after the Olympic experience.

Man I'm excited for what Favors might be in a year or two. If he gets a chance to play for Team USA this summer it's just going to get him there that much faster.

I read that Favors/Cousins can't join Team USA because the first rounds of drug testing has already happened, its too late to change the roster now.

No one knows. Even Colangelo said he's not sure.

Sounds like it's not likely that they'll add anyone outside the Finalist Roster, but I'm sure they have more options then they're letting on. I would think if Favors kills it next week, then they'd try and squeeze him in.

Brian Mahoney: For those wondering, seriously or not, no chance USA is adding anyone else no matter how many get hurt. Already got their extension (an extension from Olympics to add players in May, there is no more chance to add)

Here's the irony: I had called Colangelo to ask if Sacramento big man DeMarcus Cousins had a snowball's chance in hell of making Team USA. Before the Davis news, he had said that the roster finalists had already been submitted and names could not be added but emphasized that Cousins needed to make a good impression to put himself in a good position going forward.
