What's new

Is next season as a tank pretty much off the table?

If we win the lotto, the outlook for 2025-26 and beyond is drastically different than if we get the 5th pick for instance.

FO will make moves accordingly, which then impacts team success.

Impossible to tell now, as this whole DA "flexibility" approach literally means keeping all paths available and thus anything can happen.

One thing to note though:

Last two deadlines DA sold from the middle of the roster, and this year he only sold from the bottom.

You can argue "value wasnt there", but was it really that great last two years? I would say "tank" was more important than "value" past two DLs.

So is this a change in mindset or does he just like all our current guys too much to give discounts or does he feel like we are already bad enough this year? Who knows...

No major upgrade means tank again next year
A major upgrade this deadline would ruin the tank that they have been working on all season. If they are going to improve the roster that will happen in the off season. Obviously the tank has been going well enough they didnt feel the need to downgrade the roster more. But it would have been very dumb to improve it at this point.

The Spurs got Wemby and tanked the next season. We should follow a similar path with whoever we get.
I don't think there has ever been a team that has decided to start using assets to bring in a win now players based on a draft pick. We might be in a unique situation, but I just can't see Ainge drafting an 18 year old Cooper Flagg and deciding he's the guy before seeing him play a minute of NBA basketball.

Idk, the dude they got last draft doesn't seem like a superstar or anything.

Spurs after drafting wemby also didn't have a supporting cast nearly as good as the jazz would have if they don't make any trades and draft Flagg

Yep different situations definitely come into play.

The spurs for instance seemed ready to win now immediately after drafting Duncan for example. Because their roster was ready to win.

I think that the jazz roster is close to being ready to win now. Get Flagg and add him to a solid core of Lauri, Sexton, Collins and Kessler. Collier and keyonte look like quality NBA players. Go after some quality free agents and use assets (draft picks) to get some quality players to replace the Micah potters and Cody Williams and Brice sensabaughs and filipowskis etc in the rotation.
Coach to win. Increase the minutes of the best players.

I think we make the playoffs next season if we want to.

I don't really remember on Duncan, but I don't think they started spending draft picks or make big free agency signings to go build around him? He was also a 4 year college guy, not an 18 year old.

I do agree that it might be possible to flip the roster in the off season and try for the playoffs next year. I just doubt that the FO will feel that way. I think regardless of who we get in the draft Ainge will either stand pat to see what things look like before making moves, or be a seller in the off season to ensure the tank.
