What's new

Is this the game thread?

Mitchell is shooting 34% from the field, 27% from deep, and has scored 57 points from 61 shots. Ingles has 58 points on 40 shots, which is the next highest amount of shots, and no-one else has taken 30. Gobert has only taken 21 shots for his 46 points, Crowder 21 shots for 45 points. These are our four top scorers.

Let's be honest about what the real problem is, shall we?
Rubio is a big part of that problem. Don is struggling right now, but it’s year 2 and 3 games in. He’s dealing with a lot of pressure on and off the court and will have to adjust. I think it may be a couple weeks before the Jazz really start clicking again and Donovan finds his groove. Honestly watch Donovan and his body actions. He looks stressed and as though he’s lost some joy on the court. He just needs to take a deep breath and do what he does. He’s fine, the teams fine, give it a few more weeks before anyone gets too restless here.

The toe injury lingers. Even if it’s just psychological. He’s just not playing with the same bounce or agility. It doesn’t help that Favors hasn’t improved at all and Rubio has been basically *******, thereby making Ingles our most reliable scorer when the starters all play together given the absolutely shot spacing.

How so? He tried just about every player he had tonight looking for offense. Nobody had it.

The units he is running is trash.

Exum sharing the floor with Royce?? Havent we seen enough of that last year.

Exum
AB/Grayson
Ingles/Crowder
Niang/Crowder
Favors

That should be our 2nd unit. Floor spacing and let X run PnR/pop with Favs. Its not that hard.

Edit: and if Favs cant dominate a 2nd unit big then **** him off.

How do we feel about Jae starting? Part of me thinks it would be great considering that's our best lineup, but part of me loves the energy he brings off the bench.

It could sti be his foot, I just don’t think so. A lot of it is shooting. Some of it is he’s usinf the same scoop layup that is now scouted for and getting blocked every time. When he drives he looks for a foul more than trying to score or pass. He’s all up in his own head rn IMO. You can see it from the way he’s carrying himself. There was one point someone brought the ball up and was about to pass it to him and he waved it off completely. I think he struggled, he felt some of the pressure he struggled, which led to pressing harder, which led to more struggle. He was okay in the first half, but when a couple plays went wrong he started pressing more and it went worse from there. Idk he’s certainly stressed and not having the fun he was before, he just needs to chill himself out a little. Like I said, I think a road trip is a benefit right now.

1st half I thought we played fairly well, its just we werent finishing at the rim. Jingles had a terrific 1st half. Jaren Jackson(how good does this guy look?!) was making things really difficult on DFav inside. Memphis is just tough to play and it looks like Jackson fits perfectly into their play.

Obviously having Mike Conley to provide timely shots like the one at the end of the 3rd quarter is big. The 3rd quarter it started to get away from us and you could start to see frustration in jazz players. Exum had a brutal night, couldnt score inside, shot wasnt falling and shelvin mack was scoring on him.

Mitchell is finished......he's mentally shattered. Rubio is going to retire mid-season due to not being able to get over 10% shooting.

Also something I never envisioned myself saying. Far too much offensively is being expected of Joe Ingles. From scoring to even running the offense things are so much more under control when Joe is in control of things. Someone needs to step up and pull it together. He didn’t have a good shooting night tonight but Joe certainly being asked to do too much.

This was a frustrating game. The Jazz looked stagnant out there. The Grizzlies didn't play well, we just looked too tired to catch them. It's upsetting that we were gassed during a game just entering the season against a team that we should have no trouble destroying. And yes I think there is too much expected of Joe Ingles. For start he is 31 years old and although he is slow, at times he looks like he wants it worse than any of the other team members playing. This was an ugly game, no doubt about it.

Memphis will lose a bunch and the lakers will trade for Gasol. It always happens.
