Is Trey the Answer?

I think he is definitely a quality(top 1/3) PG in his prime if not better. Corbin offense was just awful. The majority of games when Trey was actually allowed to play the position he looked special. He had some what of a shooting slump, but there were a lot of things that factored into that. The main things were the finger injury and Corbin poor offense putting him in a poor position to take bad shots late in the shot clock. His defense is the biggest area of need and despite some legit huddles with his shooting % that has to increase obviously as well with shot selection, and again I think the poor system was equally responsible as Trey was in forcing him to take poor shots.

No he is not "the answer", but he dman sure is part of the answer.

Very few players are "the answer". I'd put Jordan, James, Bryant, Shaq...and other similar level players in their primes as "the answer". Other wise it is a collection of players.

Is Kobe that great? Did he ever do anything without Shaq and Gasol?

Until he turned 22 a couple weeks ago, I could have argued Kyrie Erving was a better 21 year old PG.

Kyrie is showing that he's been very much over-hyped.

But here is something note-worthy.....Michael Carter Williams is older than Kyrie Irving.

Why even bother wondering about this right now? I thought Trey had a fantastic year given the dysfunction of this season. I thought he had an even more impressive rookie season than Deron did. I saw absolutely nothing from this season that makes me want to push the panic button on Trey.

Agreed. I am very optimistic about Trey. Sure there are part sof his game to work on but Ithink he will be great for Utah. Also nice to have that calmness under pressure already.

After last summers Summers League games, we were all scarred to death he wasn't even an NBA player. Yes, he hit the wall, yes, his shooting percentage sucked. I was just glad that he can play in the league and be productive. DL said something interesting in his interview yesterday. He said Trey played at 195 and dropped 10 pounds and he was able to separate better after losing the weight. I think that Trey is a hard worker and will work hard this off season. I think next year, Trey will be at a good weight and he will improve on his shooting and shot selection. I would be shocked if he wasn't our starting pg next year.

I'm probably more against Trey than most posters here. His two biggest deficiencies happen to be two of the major ways I evaluate the quality of the player: defensive ability; the physicality and athleticism on offense to put the defense on its heels. The evidence against him in these categories is pretty substantial.

I think he'll end up a decent-to-good player, but he's gotta speed things up and get waaaaay more efficient.

The problem the Jazz have with Burke is that he's just good enough that he'll keep his job, PG won't be a priority in the draft or FA, but because of the deficiencies you mentioned and a few others (not getting to the FT line, not making plays defensively, small, etc), he'll likely never be top notch and will probably always hold the team back. And I like Burke.

It's just too early to say those problems are a permanent fixture on Trey's game. Again I reference Deron's rookie year he averaged 1.7 FTA per game and Trey averaged 1.6 per game. Deron was a little better as he also did that in 4 less MPG on average, but the numbers are still close. The next season Deron averaged 3.7 FTA per game. I'm not saying Trey is going to make a Deron-esque leap from year 1 to 2, but I just feel it's ridiculously premature to really be scrutinizing Trey's game at this point in his career.

Agreed. I should have clarified that those are concerns I have rather than definitive comments on his future.

Two of the top 5 PG's (Paul and Curry) don't fit this criteria.
