What's new

It’s official Donovan is the GOAT

Remember, Donovan is in Utah and he is a special player. Even if his recruiting efforts don't turn out a success, it is still a success that we FINALY have a special player who is actually trying to recruit players to Utah instead of them trying to leave Utah. As Jazz fanz we are fans to one of the smallest markets in the NBA, we need to appreciate any effort being made. I have been a Jazz fan for 3 decades and I can count on one hand how many Jazz players I have heard about doing any recruiting at all and I sill have fingers left over. Let him do his thing and support. Every No is one No closer to a YES!
I didn’t say I didn’t like his effort. I love everything Donovan does and support him.

Do we really think that adding PG will be enough to beat this Warrior team? As sad as it is to say, we need this: https://www.google.com/amp/amp.si.c...arriors-nba-finals-free-agency-lakers-thunder

The whole NBA needs KD to go somewhere else.

You just need to make the best team you can make. Injuries happen. Chemistry breaks down. Maybe the warriors lose all their depth from resigning all these guys. Jazz need to at least be a team that can win a chip sans warriors.

Moral of the story is that you have to have a team strong enough to capitolize on something happening to the warriors. They had steph and Durant out just last season. Maybe that happens again, but during the playoffs this time.

I understand that KD will stay, but the article is correct for all the reasons why he should move on. Durant at the Lakers with GS intact, Houston trying, us competing, NOLA fighting would be awesome to see. And that's just the West.

We definitely need to build to win regardless. PG does fit the current roster in terms of age and need. Ingles, Crowder, Rubio, and even Gobert have 3-4 more good years left. I think Rubio is a liability when he loses a step and Gobert too when he gets older. When a big man loses a step, he's irrelevant in a hurry in this league. We should pursue LBJ and PG.

I agree with this. Utah has two bonafide stars on their team and wicked depth except at PG. If DL can make a play for PG (and we can clear that space in a hurry) that looks real, Utah has to do that. Otherwise, we continue to build as we have and address our weaknesses. There's no drawback to either plan.

If Utah got Paul George, it solves many problems we had offensively. A rotation of Ricky, DM, PG, Ingles, and Gobert with rotation players of Royce and Crowder (and Bradley if he's ready) is a hell of a good start. We can pick up the necessary pieces via TPEs (have a couple for Hood and Johnson, if memory serves), the MLE, and the draft.

If we don't, this team still was arguably the 2nd or 3rd best team after the break last year. So we retool as necessary with team friendly contracts, address our depth issues at PG (we had crap after Rubio and I'd rather not have DM play the point if possible), and go with what we go. Utah finds a good stretch 4 to either start or give minutes behind Favors if he returns. We continue to build around Gobert and Mitchell, draft smart, and capitalize on the opportunities we help create for ourselves do to the discipline DM has in not going nuts with contracts. We're a damn good team as it is when we're healthy. We simply make additions to address where we were exposed, continue organic improvements, and be who we are.

There is no downside either way.

I don’t see Gobert as a star. At all. He’s elite on defense. And that’s it. How’s that any different than any of these other centers who’ve won DPOY and suck on offense? He can hit free throws which is huge but he’s so meh offensively (spare me the setting screens crap) in a league where elite teams score 110+ on most nights, that he’s far from a star to me and TV networks and outsiders feel the same way I’d bet.

Knowing that and how limited Ingles is (and Rubio too to a lesser extent), we need another 20ppg player and playmaker. That would have to be at the 1, 3 or 4.

Hogwash. Draymond Green is considered a star (3x all-star) and I'll argue Gobert is better offensively (122 OfgRtg for Gobs vs. 109 for Green). Green is a better facilitator, but you cannot discount Gobert's impact this season or what he does otherwise for the offense.

Jeebus... why does Rudy get under rated by so many here...

Everyone be like... he doesn’t even do that crossover step back three thingy...

That whole defense thing he does is pretty good and having a guy who scores 12-14 points a night on mega efficiency without needing the ball helps him have a huge impact on offense.

If you have played basketball you’d know that one of the best things to play with is the guy that does the dirty work and covers your *** on defense... one of the worst things is playing with the guy that controls the ball all game.

If Gobert ain’t a star then eff it I wouldn’t want to play with these so called “stars”

While i don't disagree with you, having several 2-way players is a blueprint for chips. PG13 and DM fit that description, and actually pair well with Rudy since he only lives on put-backs and dump offs for the most part. That said, Rudy being able to create for himself a few times a night would sure help our spacing and droughts. Wish-list items i guess.

Rudy is a two way player... he can’t create for himself but I don’t see that as an issue at all... basketball is a sport in which players can work together to find shots.

PG would be great here ain’t no denying that. You can have one non shooter on the floor especially if that guy puts a lot of pressure on the paint.

I just think the effect Rudy has on an opposing offense is tremendous and he has a material impact on offense as well... it just isn’t as obvious because he doesn’t score in the volume that some guys do.

Not only is Rudy a star... he’s one of the best types of stars you can have. Can be a star without the basketball... not many guys can do that.

i guess the question is, is it better to be elite defensively and passable offensively? or elite offensively and passable defensively. Seems like we've been recruiting the former while much the of the NBA has been seeking the latter.

On offense, when the ball goes to Rudy, I never think, yeah, he’s gonna score. I doubt the defense does either. That’s an issue in so much as it limits us.

I guess I just wish I saw Rudy develop his offense even a little bit so far as scoring goes. He’s obviously improved from the free throw line but he’s not improved at all beyond that.
