What's new

It is good to be back!!!

Hey everyone,

I first and foremost want to apologize for just dropping off the grid back in January. The reason I left was because I was trying to remove any and all distractions while I discerned whether I wanted to move on with my Theological Studies. I was in my final semester of undergraduate studies, I had a capstone to defend, and I was prayerfully discerning whether I was called to move on with the process of (God willing) becoming a Catholic Priest. Also, I had a family issue that required my attention shortly after I asked for my account to be deactivated - so I would not have posted much, if it all, anyways.

I know most internet message boards do not require an apology or anything like that, but this place is a pretty tight knit bunch. I hope you guys can forgive me. I kind of missed all the silly bantering that happens here.

Anyways I figured I would create this thread to see what i have missed the past six month (JazzFanz related). I see that Dalamon is back (this is a good thing). I also see that PKM is approaching the 1,000,000 post mark (this might not be a good thing). :)

BTW - I graduated from college. Also, I decided to move on with my formation to the priesthood. The Bishop of SLC asked me to attend my Theological studies in Rome, and I will be leaving on July 14th. I will be studying in Italy for the next five years, so I need this place to satisfy my Utah Jazz fix while I am overseas.

That's way cool man. Just imagine all the sights you will see just from your everyday life. Glad to have you back.

Are some Seminary programs 7 years? Why are you doing 4 undergrad and then 5 more in Rome?

Sorry, super uneducated about this. Prolly should have asked in a better way, but I suck at that.

Welcome back!

("that's racist", saved someone from saying)

Well congratulations! I am now picturing you with a bunch of Catholic priests, sitting in a candle-lit room, surrounded by piles of dusty tomes, discussing the relation between the shape of an object, and it's Aristotelian form.

But that's probably because I've been reading too much Medieval literature.

Welcome back. You returned too late to help Rigby move up in the lottery. I swear I saw him mutter "Damn, Whisky Priest" when Utah was locked into the 14th pick. But, if you have any influence with the Big Guy, please let the right players drop to Utah at #14 and #21. Also, if HE has a job for Corbin outside of basketball, that would be very, very nice.

Seminary formation lasts normally between 7-9 years. Generally speaking, you need an undergraduate degree in Philosophy (or a two year philosophy program if someone already has a degree in something else) in addition to four to five years of theology. I did not have much college when I entered, so I started from scratch.

Also, the formation to the priesthood can sometimes require a pastoral year.

Unfortunately, rigby swearing was arguably the best Jazz highlight in the past 10 months or so.

lol... not quite. But you can imagine me sitting with a bunch of seminarians cramming for a Thomistic Metaphysics final. Although at the moment, I am simply enjoying some summer high school basketball at the U of U with another seminarian friend.

Make sure to read Oliver Twist before you decide on what Pickpocketing gang in Rome you want to align yourself with. There's a lot to think about. A lot of character types in that realm to avoid.

maybe someday you can be elected Pope Whiskey Priest I

Congratulations on your decision and best wishes in your future adventures

Whisky are you pledging to be celibate for the rest of your life?

Either way congrats on decision. Rome will be awesome.
