Can't say enough good stuff about Joe. He's been perfectly happy to be a bit player when everyone is healthy and to step up when he's needed. That's a luxury few teams can afford. A 7-time All-Star who can shift his game into a gear that resembles his glory days when the Jazz need him to.
Check out these stats. Joe has been called upon to play 30+ minutes a game 11 times this season. About every 7th game, he's asked to shoulder a load of a man 10 years younger.
In those games, Joe has put up 14.2 PPG, 4.5 RPG, and 2.9 APG. He has also shot 51% from the field, 48% from beyond the arc, and 94% from the line in those games. His +/- is +11.6.
Now, you might say this is how it works. Young players(Dante, for example) fall in efficiency as they play more minutes. Jamal Crawford shoots worse if he plays over 30 minutes. Some of the other old guys like Terry and Ginobili either don't improve or get worse the more they play. There are only a few guys like Carter and Dirk who step up when needed like Joe. We're very, very lucky to have him.
