Oh damn. I didnt know about the 90 day moratorium and just made a few posts about Bilal.

*goes off to find someone else to blame*

I appreciate @Handlogten's Heros for trying to get creative, but the extension theory seems far fetched to me. I would echo what @Elizah Huge has to say….the Sexton situation is obviously heading towards him walking unless we trade him. Even if the Jazz believe that Sexton can only be a 6th man, he should be getting 30+ minutes or zero minutes (traded).

And I apologize for breaking the Bilal moratorium, the performance he had last night was just great. I’ll do my best to refer to him as some French guy from the French league.

NGL, the tanking season has really killed my enthusiasm to listen to Jazz podcast.
I understand that sentiment for sure. I think a lot of people are struggling with something similar.

Separate from what you’re saying, there are a good bunch of people who’d rather us put out a good product with zero chance of winning a championship than be bad for multiple years.

Appreciate respecting the moratorium.

The idea of the extension being worked out I think is far-fetched. I think they may know they have a chance to keep him through an extension now or in the summer though and may not be overly concerned with keeping him happy. I also think saying he needs to be moved is an overreaction at this point. I really do think we are delaying winning as much as possible and ideally if we can get a top 5 pick and still have Sexton, Kessler, Lauri going into next season then its a win. You can then decide if you want to continue with Key being HIM or shift priorities to winning. I don't think Sexton's trade value jumps or drops from where it would be currently. I agree with your thoughts that the vet trade market could finally end up at a point where there are more sellers and the buyers are broke... so it will end up constipated.

Moving Collin to the bench was just such a weird move given the performances thus far. I get it if we had like a Tyus Jones that would maybe get other guys going or something but to swap JC in was just a real head scratcher. I don't think Hardy is stupid so I wonder if there is info we are missing. Or maybe he just a weirdo.

I dont think it's that weird.

Sexton's trade value, if he has any, is going to be as a 6th man. Put him in the role teams will value him in (not saying he should be a 6th man, I still think he is a starting quality guard, but teams dont seem to like him like that). Clarkson is a better passer and helps other look better vs Sexton who is mostly just looking to score.

I listened to most of it.

When it comes to Collin I agree he would be a great 6th man on a playoff team such as Boston or Dallas. Unfortunately the Jazz do not have 5 good starters. Keyonte is the golden boy so I guess they are going to move heaven and earth to make him look good. Ironically Key might only top out as a 6th man himself but they really don't have much else at this point to market to the fans out of the last 2 drafts.

Unfortunately for Collin I don't see any team ever handing him the keys. Brunson was a special case with his Father already on the payroll for the Knicks. Unfortunately for the Jazz I don't see them getting a good return for Collin. It's a combination of him being a small scoring guard and the market for that type of player is real limited. It almost seems half the league is tanking for the next draft so they won't be trying to improve or give up assets to do so. The playoff teams that could use Collin's scoring just don't have great assets to trade. Ainge has to win all his trades so maybe it's an ego thing that he can't pull the trigger on a Sexton deal when he knows he's giving up a productive, youngish player for pennies on the dollar. Ainge probably doesn't want to watch Collin scoring an efficient 18 PPG for the Mavs off their bench during the WC Finals while not even getting a prime asset in return for him.

I think the advantages Collin can create are more important than JC being a better passer… I also don’t think he’s a better passer. If it’s about trade value both guys are in the same boat as sixth men. Collin is just better so I do think it’s weird.

He's undeniably a better passer. Sexton is out there ignoring players at times.

I just don't understand how starting Sexton will hurt his value as a 6th man. If Sexton struggles as a starter, you can fall back and say he's playing in a role that's too big for him. If he plays great, you all still think he can be good in a smaller minutes role. You can believe 100% that Sexton is a 6th man and will never be something more.....It still makes more sense to give him a bigger role.

The only benefit you get from playing Sexton 24 is that you're getting 8 more minutes of Mills and theoretically tank better. But if tanking is your goal, you can play him less games or trade him and have him play zero minutes.

For me this goes all the way back to the beginning of last season. Collin is frustrating in certain ways and I don't blame anyone for being a non believe, especially a coach. But the guys Hardy has strong preference for are Key, Clarkson, and before that THT. We can pick apart their differences but they are mostly of the same flavor of frustration. They play dumb, selfish, lose focus, and don't defend.

Good post. I don’t think Boston would play Sexton even as a sixth man, though.

I know some people hate stats but last season Sexton averaged 6.6 assist per game per 36. Clarkson has been in the league for 12 years. His career high assists per game per 36 is 5.9. FWIW

Yeah, I think if we made Sexton the main PG and fashioned the offense around him, that would be true.

But that doesnt seem to be what the Jazz want to do or really have any interest in.
