I wouldn't be giving up any of our own first round picks unless they are massively protected. I wouldn't be giving any of our youth(Hood, Exum, Mitchell). Having in mind we might lose Favors next year, people have suggested a convoluted way of trading Favors for Crowder+other stuff to make it work, but it gets complicated real fast...

I agree with not giving up Exum, Hood, or Mitchell & not sure I would even give up any picks regardless of protection (unless we intend on making additional moves to remain competitive-which would be a mistake IMO).

If that's the approach we choose, Favors for Crowder is intriguing (assuming we intend to use him as a 4/3).

Well Favors is on more than Crowder, so that means Boston would have to send more players. I think.

True. They may want to move more. For example, if they strike a deal for Bradley to create space to sign Hayward, they still need to move Crowder -- they want minutes to develop Tatum at the wing (and, well Stayward). And I bet they don't want to pay Bradley after next season, so they'll want to get value for him. My bet is they move 2/3 or 3/3.

Hayward for Crowder is nice and clean. Just do it already. Sure, Ainge could try to bleed us for a pick, but he still comes out looking like a genius because its Hayward for Crowder. Bradley is much more important to what Boston needs than another SF who might be unhappy.

As for us, I love Crowder. He is an absolutely perfect fit for us. We need a guy who will battle. Overall, check this out 2016 vs 2017:

Rubio/Exum is better than Hill/Mack

Hood/Mitchell/Ingles is better than Hood/Ingles

Bradley is better than Withey

The only place we are worse is Hayward over Crowder. If Crowder pushes us emotionally, I could see this being more minor than people are thinking.

It requires Olynyk and Jerebko to want to come to Utah for whatever it would take to match salaries so the trade would go through.

Hayward for Crowder sets up a cool 2017-8 narrative. What if Hayward falls apart in the new system (he will struggle at first) and Crowder flourishes with the Jazz. I know, I'm dreaming.

Obviously. Bradley is an expiring. I'd strongly prefer Crowder since he's locked in for three more years.

Is any team (with cap room) going to give up major assets for 1-year of Bradley? (maybe). And then if Celtics don't get assets for Bradley, they live with him for another year and let him walk. Whereas Crowder is crowded out with Hayward/ Tatum. Crowder must go -- he is clearly a problem if he stays.

The potential "deal breaker" is Ainge wanting too much for Crowder. I think a protected first needs to be in the deal from his perspective. Crowder's awesome contract boosts his trade value A LOT.

 

[Getting Traded]

I don't get why we have to give up anything for Crowder. First of all, the Celts need to get rid of his salary. Second, he wants to be traded. So we're doing the Celts a favor, not the other way around. Sure, he could be dealt elsewhere if Danny wants to be a prick about it, but whichever, the Celts need a team to do them a favor so they can sign Gordon.

As a Celtics fan I hope this works out and you guys get Crowder. I think it's fair to say that the Jazz fans deserve something in return for the Hayward loss. I want to give you guys an idea of what you are getting with Jae, aside from the numbers.

Crowder built his reputation in Boston with tenacious defense and effort. He consistently improved his shot over the past few years and had an awesome regular season. The only concern we have in Boston is that he seemed to lose some of his edge this year. Sometimes it felt like he settled for jumpers and didn't attack closeouts aggressively after the All-Star break. Jae has never been a great at driving to the hoop but he was certainly more opportunistic prior to this season. He had a 26 game stretch from February-March where he only shot 32% from 3. His shooting was also wildly inconsistent in the playoffs. The numbers ultimately looked okay but he only shot 34% from 3 in the postseason, with two of his better shooting performances coming in garbage time of blowout losses to the Cavs.

All in all Jae Crowder would an excellent addition to help you with the grind of an 82 game regular season. The advanced metrics always show that we were better with him on the court regardless of his inconsistent shooting. Part of me is worried that his contract situation is bothering him though. He is worth so much more than 6 million and his opportunity to get paid is a long way away. With that being said, if you get a motivated Crowder then I'm sure every Jazz fan will fall in love with his game. You can pencil in 13-15 PPG on relatively low volume to go along with great team defense. Gobert's rim protection should allow him to play even more aggressively on the perimeter.

What's fair is fair, but even if we get Crowder it doesn't compensate. The Jazz will need to build on what they have. What might compensate is if Favors and Burks can recover from their injuries and return to form -- Hayward's rise coincided with their decline, and once they did return to the lineup though not 100 percent, the way Snyder retooled the offense to feature Gordon, put them at a disadvantage. Also, Mitchell is likely going to be the steal of the draft, which also will help.

If we can give a couple 2nd rounders or even a first it will be worth it. Not to mention, we'd also pick up a $24M trade exception, so we'd have flexibility to sign someone else, or trade the exception for another pick to make up for the pick we gave the celtics.

I really like Crowder.

Fairness has nothing to do with this. I do not expect the Jazz to get anything from the Celtics. Ainge/Haywood are demonstrably selfish and craven in a business where that mostly gets rewarded. It is a fool's paradise to think that the Jazz are owed anything.
