Are we all giving up on Burks now? I haven't watched the Spurs game, but come on....give him a year with training camp and actual practice time. He's had to play behind CJ for idiot's sake! He could be better than Harden, and then we'll be crying like men over what could have been......just like New Jersey will be doing with Favors

I don't think anyone has given up on Burks, but Harden is a proven talent who also probably has a higher ceiling.

My worry with Burks is his shooting, and it seems as if the coaches are trying to reel in his natural abilities to drive. How do the Jazz use players that can drive to the basket? Serious question. I was reading DraftExpress' prediction for Burks, and it seems that he shot pull-up jumpers at a very high rate with the lowest percentage of anyone in the draft. His spot-up jumpers were actually decent at 39%, so he needs to drive and dish and shoot spot-up corner threes. He still could be quite good, but he needs to increase his BBIQ.

"Alec Burks unsurprisingly fares much better from a statistical standpoint, where his 0.987 PPP ranks sixth overall, and he uses 19.3 possessions per game, fourth most of all wings. Burks' aFG% of 48.7% actually ranks third worst in the class, but he sports an above average TO% and his 18.8% free throw rate is easily best in the class.

Burks' ability to quickly create shots is evident in his transition numbers, as 21.8% of his possessions come on the break, the highest in the class. Burks is a talented shot creator in the halfcourt as well, with 16.1% of his possessions coming on pick-and-rolls (1st overall) and 19.0% coming on isolations (fourth overall). Burks' 0.897 PPP on isolations ranks dead in the middle of the class at ninth, but given the defensive attention he drew, it's still impressive.

Another interesting note on Burks' isolations is the equal rate he drove left and right, having 53 possessions on the season going right and 54 going left. His PPP was equally impressive in both directions, at 0.849 going right and 0.963 going left.

The area Burks fared the poorest was certainly with jump shots, where his 0.734 PPS ranked dead last, hurt by his poor three-point shooting and reliance on long two-point jumpers. Burks takes more pull-up jumpers per game (4) than any wing player in this class, but converts just 27% of these attempts. He takes far less (1.5) catch and shoot jumpers, but makes these at a 39% clip, which leaves some room for optimism that he can at least develop into a decent set-shooter.

On the other hand, Burks ranked third in the class finishing around the basket at 1.242 PPS, and that doesn't take into account the ridiculous rate at which he gets to the free-throw line, where he gets a ton of easy points with his 82.5% shooting.

All things considered, Burks' virtues as a prospect is represented quite well in this sampling."

Yup. Nobody who did 5 minutes worth of research on any site, tv, arena, or interview thought we were drafting a shooter when we selected Burks.

I still don't think we give up 2 unproven talents for Harden. I know Harden's All Star stuff, but 2 potential All Stars > 1 All Star.

I'm waiting for my eggs to hatch before I decide to eat them.

Does anyone here think Harden has it to become the man for a team? And take a team deep into post season? If he could be our superstar and that's the role he's looking for then I would give more for him.

Harden is one of those role players that any team would be happy to have. He provides defense and gives it his all everytime he steps on the court. I would pull the trigger in a heart beat. I don't think any of the above scenarios would be acurate however.

Lol. That was good.

One in hand > two in the bush.

But again, I'd rather just yoink him in '13.

Harden just isn't a near All-Star, he is a near All-Star who is only 22. He is also ridiculously efficient, scoring nearly 17 ppg on 10 field goal attempts. He also creates for himself and other people, as well as being able to play off the ball. Him and Hayward as our wings would be a dream.

Not giving up on Burks, but Harden is just the better, more complete player.

How would everybody feel about Harden playing the point?

I'm all for throwing the big cheddar at this guy, but I think with Hayward and Burks around (assuming you don't give up either), you have to assume you can play him as a PG? Right?

Ugggh. When will people drop trying to turn SG's into PG's?

also, go back and point to the specific moment when I personally support the position you imply in that post. Then, go google "thought experiment". Then, go think about what a message board can do. Then, go think about how ****ing annoying it is for you to "demonstrate knowledge" when you misread things a majority of the time. Kool, braugh.
