What's new

Game Thread Jan 12, 2025 06:00PM MT: Brooklyn Nets @ Utah Jazz

Added to Calendar: 01-12-25

Let's hope so, mon mimi. If not, what does that say about how the Jazz have drafted during the first two years of the tank? If we don't believe any of these guys can play a large role on a winning NBA team, the entire tank has been a bloody wasted two years. If the Jazz FO is that poor at drafting, this is going to be a very long, dismal several years of sucktitude.

Agreed however we've had relatively late picks in fairly shallow drafts, there nobody Id say the FO has missed on big time. This draft however is considered fairly deep so hopefully we get it right and make a splash.

I just read right here on this board that it's a "two player draft".

I guess we're forever waiting for the perfect draft, perfect tank, perfect lottery. Only then can we think about competing.

Let's hope the savior we pick doesn't blow out his knee in the second game of the season.

The tears in this thread contain enough salt to create another lake :D

LMAO the Nets can choose anyone to shoot FTs and they choose Brice?
"If the offended player is injured and unable to attempt the awarded free throw(s) as a result of a flagrant foul-penalty (1) and/or as a result of a medical determination that a player must undergo a concussion evaluation, his coach may designate any player in the game at that time to attempt the free throw(s)."

So obvs Hardy chose Brice.

And that exception to the rule is there of course to make sure players go into the protocol when they should.

The next three games are vital to the tank. We need three Ls in a big way. I'm not sure Hardy is up to the task. He needs to be calling time outs every time the Jazz get some momentum or appear to be starting a run. The Flagg depends on this.

If they plan to keep Hardy on the team,he can't go blatantly undermining team effort and lose the locker room. It's up to FO to build a team that sucks enough for tanking they want to see.

Such a disconnect between what opposing team’s broadcasters think of our team and what the apparent consensus around here seems to be. Being an out of stater, League Pass doesn’t give me the home away option on away games and all I hear is how loaded and dangerous this young team is. Considering draft position, our picks have been assessed as very good and our blue collar vets like Sexton and Collins are also given a higher level of esteem.

I tend to agree with the Jazzfanz subversive element in regards to “tanking” - it’s a sordid dishonest affair - but then again there’s this apparent disconnect. Just so much finger pointing around here equating our poor play (record) with whoever the stooge of the week happens to be - Cody and Isaiah are always popular targets. We’re not very good by design folks! Geez, all you have to do is to compare our injury report with the mean.

I hope our little deceit is successful and we land Cooper or Harper or Bailey or whatever. This tanking stuff is for the birds - yes I agree that we need a flat draft or a sub league European system or some kind of mediation to protect the fan and I suppose even the sports gambler to some extent. Because as we’ve seen, there are games in the season that “the powers that be” go all out for the win and others where a Hardy hard tank intervention is strongly in play. Last night was just a run of the mill. “see what you can do with the mash unit situation. Compiling losses while keeping butts in the seats is no easy juggling act.

CBS had an article a week ago, or so, where they see Jazz as a sleeping giant for 2025-29 who just needs to find their #1 option and start spending their assets. Gotta hit that pick, be it #1, #3, #5 or #8.

That's very similar to the play that almost ended Kris Dunn's NBA career.

What's messed up is that while the NBA now has rules about having to let a jump shooter land, those rules don't seem to apply to guys at the rim. I know the Dunn video is old, but Steph isn't even contesting. He just runs under the hoop after the dunk so there is no place for Dunn to come down. Keon Johnson is at least contesting but he both clips Isaiah's lower body and makes it impossible for the play to end any other way but Isaiah hitting the floor while horizontal.

How are these plays not flagrants? Where are the attacking players supposed to land? They both should've been tossed, even if one is a top-10 player of all time.
