Jaren Jackson Jr. traded to the Jazz

Trust MacMahon... he's tied in.

I think they will try really hard to be as low as possible. I just think they played with fire early and then now are in a tough situation because they chased an opportunity. I would hold Key and JJJ out until after AS break. Figure out a plan post AS break and be truly disgusting. Like Ochai at the PG back in the day disgusting. Need to check for contusions like you check for tics... someone's tummy hurts... sit.... heartburn... stay home.

We are in the "if we don't draw a fine for tanking then we didn't go hard enough" territory.
I think we have a real clear tanking move that we can pass off as developmental... well... it would be legit developmental - just give Ace a ton of on-ball opportunities. Maybe even run the offense through him in certain situations... like... high leverage, end of game, clutchitime situations.

I agree on the method. We need to avoid clutch time though. If we get there its already a fail.

Hell, let them fine us. Arent the fines relatively minimal vs losing the pick? 1-3 games can be the difference.
This is a great point.

Teams eat millions upon millions of dollars to acquire one bad 1st. The going rate for a 2nd rounder (in the late 30’s to 40’s) in cash is like $3 million.

A top-8 pick with the chance to be #1? Fuh****ingettaboutit

After acquiring JJJ, 5-8 is kinda the spot we want to be. Literally only one guy(Peterson) out of the projected top 4 fits our roster.
Yeah but if we end up 5th I could see the "lottery" dropping us to 9. We haven't moved up a spot in our history with our own pick so our chances are scary at 5.

Tank strategy (one of many):

If JJJ plays, then play him at 5 without rebounding support AND run a lot of playmaking through him. Make him try to do what Nurk is doing without anything on-the-line. These reps will help him get into the flow of Hardy's offense—eventually—and it likely will not translate into winning basketball in this year's context.

Yes and that 65% includes a lot of one time appearances from guys who were questionnable picks ot begin with and players who ended up suffering injuries. That lowers the actual hit rate.

Take 2005 to 2025 picks for instance. That stretch includes 14 all-stars from #1 overall picks but among them are Paolo, Zion, Ben Simmons, Andrew Wiggins, Derrick Rose and Andrew Bogut (zero All-Stars but I count All-NBA as well). Zion and Rose were great for a hot second but ruined by injuries, and others dont really qualify as the "saviors of your franchise" types.

I am a huge believer of Darryn Peterson, but I'm not so sold on AJ and Boozer being #1 worthy. Like sure in 2024 or some other trash draft there may have been 4-6 guys from this draft going #1... but
We cannot predict injuries, can we?

There are some drafts that have a few good players but overall are weak, but having watched a lot of the members of the upcoming draft, it appears there is a lot of solid talent. I think the chances for a miss may be lower in this draft, but the Jazz will do their thing and prove me wrong, if they can even keep their pick :)

Looong thread... that's good
- I'm glad Jazz actually did something with its units
- JJJ is a very good basketball player; he's got flaws... if he wouldn't he'd be a superstar and there are not many of them around looking our way, aren't they?
- contract is a bit of a burden, but it goes with the territory
- I don't believe in a LM, JJJ, WK frontcourt... in the case we can keep WK (we can, probably won't)
- The trade don't tell me anything about where Jazz brass is heading... it just signals when such a player is available and obtainable without havig to kill anyone, you probably go and grab him
- Jazz need the tank to continue this season, without any regard whatsoever about whatever is said/done about it
- I concur a couple of concerns stands (nothing we can do right now anyway): we know little to nothing on some central Jazz guys or about our coach playing under postseason pressure...

I wouldn't be a bit surprised if we tanked our asses off and the powers that be took the pick as a penalty. Just seems like something that could happen to our organization.
