It is dumb that division record has so much meaning... the only thing divisions do in the NBA is determine which 4 out of 14 teams in your conference you never play 3 times (the other 10 teams rotate, with 4 each year). Should just be head to head and then mutual head to head in a 3+ team tie.

They dont have that much meaning. Trey are only a tie breaker if you are tied in a season series with a team you are tied with in record. What other metric would you want used to be the 3rd tiebreaker? It's literally the only fair thing that can be used.

Not everyone plays everyone in the conference the same # of times. For instance, I think Utah plays all the playoff teams 4 times this year and Phoenix/Lakers/Mavs only 3 times (or something along those lines, I know they had the toughest. or one of, projected Western Conference schedule). Everyone in their division plays everyone 4 times every year, so it's the most fair.
