A win Sunday would almost all but guarantee a playoff spot, especially considering Minn and Den play each other twice at the end of the season. Those games may determine the 8th seed.

Between AD in New Orleans and Jimmy Butler in Minnesota, there’s at least two All Stars that would fit the Jazz that should be forcing their way out of town. Both of those teams are pathetic.

When’s AD’s contract up?

He can opt out in two years. This offseason, he’ll be in exactly the same place that PG13 was when he told Indiana that he wouldn’t re-sign with them.

I expect (if AD pulls a similar move) that the Pelicans will say they’re not trading him, guage his value at the deadline and then trade him next offseason before he can leave and when they can demand the highest price for him.

Minnesota will probably want Butler to commit to a long-term contract this offseason. If he refuses, they might be forced to consider trading him at the deadline or letting him walk next year for nothing. I think that the Paul George situation in OKC will actually factor in heavily to the T-Wolves decision.
