Jazz acquire DeMarre Carroll from Denver

Wasn't it already reported that KOC was going to add a wing for the intense road stretch? Not saying there isn't a deal in the works, but this may just be an insurance policy.

I say Howard to the Lakers for their 1st this year. They'd still have the Mavs 1st (top 20 protected) in this coming draft and they've been treading water and are in desperate need for a spark, help on the wing, and some depth. This covers all those bases and is a fairly legit addition for one last run at a title at what is a nominal cost.

Seems like the Jazz want the guy for keeps. He will be attending tomorrow's practice per twitter, and the general vibe seems to indicate the Jazz are planning to keep him. Since he's nowhere close to starter material, we can be fairly certain the Jazz are to trade a big. So who's it going to be? Possibly Evans. That would pretty much trade a 13th man off the bench with another. It is possible, but I doubt it. That means the most likely possibility is Millsap or Jefferson, with the intention of having Carroll as the 4th big, while moving Favors to starting spot.

I am calling it now. Jefferson for a PG or a wing, with the latter being more likely.

Edit: Unless Carroll is a wing. Which would guarantee it's Howard/CJ +Harris for a PG!

Crap, everything i can find about this Carroll guy shows he is just the kind the Jazz love. I am mortified to find myself believing this may a legitimate signing with intent to keep him. We need some changes, we need some shooters, we need a PG, we do not need this kid as he will not be a step forward. All things that were said when John Stockton was drafted!! But...........this guy is not John Stockton......sob!

Locke trying explain that the Jazz have wanted for a while. That doesn't really add up to me, but here is his spin:
Considering the Jazz need perimeter shooting why would they use a roster position on a non shooter lanky ¾ tweener. The answer is much simpler than it is being made out to be. This is a player the Jazz have liked in the past. He fits how the team plays and they have a roster spot available so they have signed him to get a closer look.

This year the depth in the d-league is limited because so many players left for Europe during the lockout.

I am not sure this is a pre-cursor to another move, but it does give the Jazz flexibility. It doesn’t address a set need but you are not going to be able to address very many needs with the 14th roster spot out of the D-League.

This is a player they like and so they have signed him to get a closer look. If they have the opportunity to move a player in a trade it is better to have Carroll signed then hope he is available when that trade happens. This is simply planning ahead with a player the Jazz are interested in having on their roster.

So what if he's the type of guy the Jazz love and they do plan to keep him? If they aren't planning on moving him it doesn't mean this signing won't lead to a deal involving other players. Maybe they picked him up knowing we'll need depth and a couple players are on the move?
