Jazz any closer to knowing their 2019 roster configuration?

I had a conversation with a friend the other day about who would the Jazz protect if a potential expansion draft was held today. And I realized ... this team is in a transition. Past the first 3-4 players I don't see a player I would be upset about losing. That's telling. We need DL to make make moves and pick a direction. Right now even with Donovan's incredible development I still don't see what the long term plan for this team is. Rubio shouldn't be part of it and Favors probably isn't since Quin doesn't seem to like playing both Gobert and Favors together. JJ is old and probably retiring. In essence we have Gobert-Mitchell... Possibly Ingles? Possibly Hood? Possibly Exum? as part of the long-term future? That's not a lot. We practically have 2 surefire parts and everything else is questions.

This coming summer is big one for DL. The current year was a pivot year and he managed to not tie us to long-term money, which is good... Now lets see what the long-term plan is.

I saw small-ball 4 the moment I watched him play. Dude can obviously rebound like a monster for his size.

He's played almost exclusively at the wing too... I think his shooting and rebound percentages improve when he moves to the 4.

You're going to be underwhelmed by the movement this summer, bro. DL will work hard for team-friendly deals for Exum and Hood, Favs will find a new team, JJ probably retires or takes a 1-yr deal on a team with more potential. It's the summer after this one that we're most likely to feel a pivot. IMO, of course.

I've already set my expectations on the Favs-will-expire-and-leave scenario. In fact, I'm deeply there. I'd be seriously surprised by any other scenario.

I'm 70/30 that he will be traded. I think that it depends on Rudy's health.

I think the timing of Rudy coming back and Niko's contract being tradeable is kind of ideal now... we don't have the awkwardness of starting two traditional bigs until January. I don't see them finding a taker for anything really good. My prediction is a three team trade that involves Milwaukee or Washington where Chicago takes on some money and gets a young player or a pick... we end up with Niko.

Does anybody have good measurements on height, wingspan, etc? DX has him at 6'6'' but I can't find any detailed measurements.

I agree there is some frustration with where we are, but overall I'm really happy. If DM was the typical rookie we'd be so far from where we need to be.

The pieces I would not trade right now unless it was such an obvious deal... Rudy, DM, Ingles, Royce (no real trade value), Exum (his value is so low the risk/reward here is too good), our first round pick (not moving it unless it was just too good to pass up).

Everything else is up for grabs in the right deal. This summer we should not be big FA players... not enough out there honestly. Look for bargains in the MLE range at the end of FA. You and I both talked about how we really don't have cap space next summer anyway... that is the myth that won't seem to die.

Really right now I say keep yourself open to Hood trades, move Favors to allow us to go small at the 4 more often, try to acquire a late first round pick with guys like Thabo, Joe J, and other ancillary parts.

We need to find a good third wheel, but the rest is work around the fringes of the roster... will take some time.

I just don't see why Chicago would trade Mirotic. The guy looks like a budding star for them. Sure, they want to tank, but they don't necessarily have to. If Levine comes back healthy, they could have a good thing going with their lineup. They really don't have to do anything at this point.

I think Mirotic has probably priced himself out of what DL would want to give up.

(The package of Bulls players is just 3 players who added up to Mirotic since you cant put him in the trade machine).

Bulls take on a ton of salary to get Kelly Oubre.

Wizards give up Oubre, but get off the contracts of Mahini and Gortat (who has been playing poorly). They get Lopez (playing nicely) and veteran role players Thabo (can replace what Oubre does this year) and Joe Johnson.

Jazz get Mirotic.

Alternate trade where instead of Lopez to the Wizards, it's Favors to the Wizards. They don't trade Gortat. This could be preferable to them as they would have Favors bird rights next year to lock him in long-term.

I wouldn't necessarily be disappointed, as long as he doesn't tie us into long-term mediocrity. Keeping the options(free capspace for 2019 FA) open is OK with me. We are not winning it all next year, unless LeBron comes to Utah or something of that sort, so as long as he doesn't lock our capspace in big long-term contracts for meh players I'm OK.

I also expect Exum to take the QO, which BTW will help with clearing about 10M of capspace to try to pry away someone good.

I just don't see why Chicago would trade Mirotic. The guy looks like a budding star for them. Sure, they want to tank, but they don't necessarily have to. If Levine comes back healthy, they could have a good thing going with their lineup. They really don't have to do anything at this point.

You guys may be right. I can see that if he continues his current pace, buuuuttttt... it is really unsustainable. He's 26 and may have taken a jump but he's not this good... He will regress.

The motivation for them will really be that if Lauri is healthy there may not be enough minutes for him RoLo, Mirotic, and Portis. They had a literal fist fight over minutes.

I don't think it will be a straight up Chicago and Utah trade, but three teamer with Milwaukee or Washington. If Favs has value to them I'd go straight up... or include our 2nd round pick. Not much else I'd send for him and there aren't a lot of trade partners that make a ton of sense for him.
