Jazz At Trailblazers - 8 PM Mountain Time, Root Sports

Drawing anything from unadjusted +/- from a single game sample size is pretty silly. There are so many variables that go into it, perhaps the biggest of which in tonight's game being that Burke was playing heavy minutes against one of the worst benches in the NBA.

While Burke was leading what is the worst bench (offensively) in the entire NBA.

Man on him? Almost every shot Burke took out of the PNR was wide open.

The argument is that we all know how the Blazer's play a pick n roll. They drop their big back and give up the midrange jump shot. In crunch time they did this while playing tight perimeter defense, pretty much forcing the Jazz's hand into midrange jumpers. Trey had been hitting them most of the night. Snyder must have liked that shot because it was the easiest shot to get throughout the game since it was always there. If he didn't want that shot to happen, he shouldn't have been calling that play because that is what that play had resulted in for most of the game.

Easy on the guy you have in your avatar. He's doing a great job with this young squad, we're just a couple good pieces away in our back court.

I honestly have not often seen anything like that, almost ever. Aldridge was completely dominant and Rudy shut him down just about completely. Aldridge couldn't move without being smothered and started to just get rid of the ball rather than challenge Gobert.

That's the thing I love about him and Favors for that matter. It's not just rim protect; it's being a good defender, period. Damn, I would have loved seeing that!

He gets hated on because the dumb plays are sooooooooo dumb and selfish, and his D is godawful it's almost like he hands the other team points. He does do a lot of good things too.

Burke played some good defense in the game. He struggles when he has to play with Kanter because players are much more eager to drive to the rim.

Trey was completely gassed by the end of the game running around with Portland's guards, and they were defending him with Mathews at times.

Looks like I missed a barn-burner.

Take-aways?

Our defense was stellar most of hte gmae, especially Gobert on Aldridge.

Blazer's started hitting 3's in the 4th and we got into bad foul trouble in the 3rd.

Ingles/Exum can't score to save their lives, and that was what really cost us the game.

Trey Burke at +19. So there ya go. . .

I've really appreciated the introduction of +/- as a stat. It really frees up my time since I no longer have to actually watch the game. A simple glance at the box score and I too can pretend to be a fan at work or on a message board.

I was truly boggled by it, the impact he has in the game man... He shut off Aldridge so they had to go Lillard, it was so obvious it was because of Gobert.

When we started this little discussion about Burke and the PnR, it was directly after Burke forced a contested shot out of the PnR with 8 seconds left on the shot clock. People were getting on him for that shot and that's when you defended him. I don't have a problem with him taking wide open shots.

I think Burke had 3-4 too many shots early in the clock, but he had a good game for the most part.

Yup, he had to play a lot because of Exum's foul trouble and ineffectiveness.

Have to say Exum missing that fastbreak opportunity early in the game really disappointed me. Seems like that would be a situation where you would be able to see some natural talent shine through and he essentially air-balled an open layup because Lillard was breathing on his neck.

lol that's an abstract take on it. Isn't it more like the other way around ? Those two are dumb and dumber. Not sure which is which tho
