What would our differential be if we played a decent first game of the season against Detroit?

Sure, but I think his point stands. If the Jazz were able to keep teams to 79ppg over the course of the season we would have a historically good defensive team and we would be a top team in the league, no doubt. The 79ppg would be a very good indication that the other defensive metrics would also be good. It doesn't tell you exactly what those other numbers would be, but they couldn't be bad if we held teams to 79ppg.

Yep. This is what I have been trying to say.
If we hold a team to 79 points then I don't need to look at other defensive metrics. I already know those other metrics will look good.

Well one-half considering you'd figure they'd see where they are around the trade deadline. And that also gives Exum just one more year of development.. definitely not set in stone that he "should" be ready after another year. Just don't see Dennis moving multiple future assets (first round picks, Lyles) for him. We will see what happens when the Pacers suck though, cause they will suck.

My hope would be that Burke/Lyles would get it done.

Trades do happen before the deadline. If their season should be aborted, it will be apparent before then. It's not a given that the trade would have to wait until February, so it could be closer to two full seasons with Hill.

And, of course, there is still the chance of him being willing to re-sign.

In terms of Exum, I think one year backing up Hill after he recovers from his injury would be just fine. You can't have young talent coming off the bench for too long like we did in the Corbin era.

Trey Lyles is really going to have to turn it on and start showing more flashes of his potential for that trade to happen. It seems like the Pacers could probably do better for Hill than a backup PG and a border-line lottery talent PF.

I don't think Treys would get it done. I assume Indiana would want players with high ceiling if they're blowing up the team. Lyles is a complete unknown (without much hype), and Burke might grow into a below average starter one day. I think they would want something better for Hill.

Pacers were high on Trey Lyles coming into the draft. If Turner was off the board, notion was their guy was the hometown Lyles.

Possibly, but I'm not sure how much they can ask for considering his upcoming UFA status. Not to mention the fact that most teams are not in desperate need of a PG. I can't think of another team that could use Hill more than the Jazz.

Side note: I'm pretty sure there were rumors that Indiana liked Lyles during the draft process.

I think there's room to make a deal work, should Indy decide it's time to hit the reset button.

Rudy wasn't the sole factor. Exum was disrupting on the perimeter with his long reach. I also thought there would be some drop-off. Neto has been better than expected defensively.

My sentiments too, hope exum comes back even better than before

Jazz are at 84.1 pts per 100 possessions allowed. Currently the Spurs are in second, more than 5 points per 100 possessions behind. Yes, the Jazz have played against 3 ****ty offenses, but the defense has been very good by any measure.

How does this make the ONE stat I pointed out any more useful?

Cleveland (the second best ppg defensive team) is going to give up a 100 pts to the same pathetic Philadelphia team we held to 71 pts. Just saying...

I don't see Indiana wanting to blow up there team for to many young players. With Paul George there, they are gonna be thinking win now.
