Jazz Finals Appearance

Right now I am watching the Jazz in the Finals against the Bulls both in 1997 and 1998. It is being televised on NBATV. I just have a couple of things that I want to point out/ask.

They are only showing the final game of the Finals. It is frustrating to watch because you know that the Jazz lose both games but it is just so much fun watching the Jazz old system run like it should, and watching the Mailman go to work.

I also wanted to ask everyone if Chris Morris was a less athletic CJ Miles? I ask this because they both wear 34 and if you squint enough they even look similar. I know that sounds bad but I am not being racist at all.

CJ has a fatter ***. I feel like Chris Morris was a better player, more talented, therefore he squandered more.

Howard Eisley's 3 that didn't count because fake shot clock violation would have given the Jazz 3 more points to end the game. Very interesting of that would have changed things for the Jazz.

FWIW, Game 5 of the '97 Finals (the Flu Game) airs again tonight on NBATV at 10 PM MT.

-IMO Chris Morris had more scoring ability than CJ. Better knockdown shooter and finisher around the rim. Unfortuantely - like CJ - took wild shots and was very much of a headcase, didn't play defense and unlike CJ - didn't even try. In '96 Morris and Sloan once had such a huge blowup on the bench that when Morris refused to go back to the lockerroom (a la Giricek) the threat of arena security was raised and Morris eventually relented. Because of his size (6-8) and reasonable athleticsm, he would get the bulk of the minutes backing up Russell when the Jazz faced the Lakers and Bulls (more athletic teams) but he was completely out of the rotation for much of the 97-98 season.

wasn't he known as Chris "Air" Morris at one point or am i thinking about someone else

unfortunately we got him when he was well past his prime, which was the case for a lot of jazz player i remember

I did a little YouTube research on the man and found this gem:

It's kind of sad that Karl Malone would later be forced to be teammates with this joker...

I heard that he ended up playing on the Harlem Globetrotters...
(I thought I'd throw that out there before verifying it)

2 obvious shot clock mistakes cost the Jazz 5 points. Outcome, Jazz by 4. Next game in Chicago. Jazz lose series in 7. Delays the outcome another game but I seriously doubt that MJ and co. would have lost a game 7 on their home court. Especially if you throw in potential officiating bias.

The NBA Finals utizlize the 2-3-2 format (for mass-media travel) so Game 7 would've been at the Delta Center. Now, I'd never bet against Michael Jordan's Bulls in an elimination game, but when you factor in Scottie Pippen's sore back and all the mileage that was starting to wear on MJ, the Jazz definitely would've had a puncher's chance in Game 7.

Personally, I've always wanted to rewatch the Jazz blowout of the Lakers in game 1 of the 98 WCF.

Anyone remember that?

The Lakershow came into town chanting "down down down, Utah's goin down!" Only to be blown out by 20+ to a rocking jazz crowd.

Anyone have some footage of that game?

Why dwell on the gambling refs and some of our darkest moments?

Lets go back in time and remember when LA and Kobe was our punching bag.

Wasn't that also the game where Greg Foster drew his finger across his throat?

CJ and Chris Morris were very similar. Both shot about 40%. In other words pretty mediocre to bad.

Morris was used mostly correctly by jerry... A 10th guy off the bench...

Unfortunately, because of our lack of anyone at the 3, CJ is probably going to be a starter (again) for this team.
