What's new

Jazz Free Agency Summer of 2018

There also appears to be a lot more money going around next year though as well. I think Rubio might have some pretty high value if the Jazz play very well like a lot of us expect. His impact was huge on this team in the second half. I think our winning streak had just as much to do with him improving as it did with Gobert coming back. Although it also had a lot to do with an easy schedule.

I think he will be worth a lot more than those second guys you have listed and possibly in the same conversation as the guys in your first list. Kyrie is really hard to predict though.

I think NY, Philly, Indiana, San Antonio will look at pgs, but will place a premium on shooting and not sure Rubio would be the first target... so I'm not sure he has a ton of suitors... even if he shows one year improvement. There are enough other stopgap options available next year if he did get too pricey. I don't know that we can get the Stretch 4 or dynamic 3 we want and have Rubio and Exum on the books... and if Rubio gets a 25-30 it gets to be rough to keep him. I'd likely let him walk at that point. We will have some options to replace what he does... hopefully Exum, Grayson can help give us some comfort there and we will see where Exum comes in with his contract.

I think he's been in SLC almost all summer... last year he was playing with national team... could be a big year if he's locked in the gym with our dev staff.

Yeah, I think it will be big for him.

What I expect to see from him this year is improved passing as well. He had a lot of bad turnovers trying to make plays. I think he will learn our system better and improve his TO ratio.

His shot is still so ugly even when he was hitting. But when he is confident it seems much better. So I think he can get confident in his shot.

I doubt money becomes a problem between Rubio and the organization. It wasn't with the Wolves, It won't be with the Don and Snyder. If he plays like he did in 2018, the Jazz will gladly offer him 4/<70 or something close and Rubio will sign it in a second.

That's where I'd guess he comes in... so 4/60 now is a fair compromise on an extension if we do it this summer. I'd wait because I think he gets 4/70 and at most 4/80... I don't see him as a guy who will chase the limelight or every dollar... so if a dysfunctional team like NY called with 4/80 I think he'd be willing to stay for less with us.

He will end up in Orlando and hopefully get some of his value back. The injury issues and physical limitations are really tough to commit to long term.
I see, the Orlando twitter follow. Mmmm, makes sense for both. The Magic is going to be so bad. IT needs to do some humbling too and accept that he is not a starting caliber pg on a good team anymore. Injuries suck for a player like him who relied on quickness and unique body control.

His set shot is goofy but consistent... honestly I never cringe when he shoots a set shot with time. His not shooting off the dribble messes up some of our pick and roll stuff... some of that can be aided with a stretch 4.

Yeah and we're all here saying he'll NEVER DO THAT IN THE WEST.

What's the point of doing a hypothetical if it can never come true?

There are many reasons. 1, its a sports message board in the off season. We are playing a hypothetical game that you are involved in drafting players and guessing who would win. They would never play against each other and that would never happen, so whats the point? Its entertaining.

Second of all, I dont think its impossible. I also dont think its likely but it could happen. Most likely for it to happen would require a decent jump in his game, the Jazz to win a lot of games and be a top 2/3 seed, and some injuries. An unlikely storm.

Also you like to speak in terms of everyone. No one else is saying what you are saying you are on your own. You are saying that not everyone else. You gotta stop trying to talk for others. I speak for me and I am pretty sure my opinions are different from everyone elses on this board. Just like you opinions are different from everyone elses.

Like Julius Randle playing the 3? You pull hypotheticals out of your *** all the time, so the irony is high here.

And you still never answered about saying Tim Duncan was “solid”. Explain yourself.

I love IT's heart and unconquerable spirit. If he stays healthy he could make Orlando really fun to watch. In the Anemia East he might even push his way into an all-star game.

If Rubio plays at an all star level, he could get over $20 million a year.

Rubio most likely will not play at that high of a level, but will probably get paid between $17-20 a year.

See, that wasn’t hard guys!

You're the only one here who thinks Rubio can 'hypothetically' make the All Star team in the West.

I dunno, maybe if there's a flu outbreak that affects Curry, Lillard, Klay, Butler, Westbrook all at the same time, that could happen, 'hypothetically'.

Keep living in your hypothetical world though, it suits you.

I think if Rubio shoots like he did in the second half he will have a lot of suitors. If he shoots 40+% for the season from three that will make him pretty valuable. A great passer, a great defender, and a knock down 3 point shooter is a pretty good commodity in the NBA that can create for himself and others.

But shooting is still the big question mark for Rubio.
