Jazz front runner for Conley

being a hooker kinda infers having some extra special skills that have been honed over years of application and can provide something a little extra tho ???

The difference is that Conley is much better than Hill or Rubio. He doesn't make us a title favorite, no. But he's good enough to put us into the WCF/Finals mix. That's where we need to be. Because if you're there you have a chance to win it all if things fall your way. Look at Toronto. They weren't favorites. They weren't even favorites in their own conference. But they just had a championship parade because they made moves to put them in the mix and had a few things fall their way. I know they have Kawhi and we don't. The hope has to be that Donovan is our Kawhi and do those types of things for us. Because realistically we probably won't be able to trade for top 5 NBA player. It's going to require a little luck no matter what we do. But if we don't take that step to get in the mix we'll never have a chance. It's time to take that step and stop punting down the road. Especially with Rudy in his prime and the West wide open for the taking.
it requires luck, yes. but like i said, we can't win if we don't play. we are not putting ourselves in a good position for any future improvements through trade talks. all due to us not being active/accumulating trade assets through free agency markets. DL is doing us the complete opposite right now.

imagine us putting together a package for someone like Porzingis, is there anyone we can realistically put on a table so both parties will be happy with?

players we have are either too valuable for us to give up, or too underwhelming to raise other teams' interests.

how to get players that we as jazzfans will feel happy to let go, while also being good enough to raise other teams' interests?

through free agency.

In addition to being conservative, the FO seems to have a tendency to overvalue our own guys. Exum and Fav might be seen as positive trade assets if they weren’t being paid twice what they are worth.

Looking at the guys on the roster that could realistically be traded, I’m maybe interested in O’Neale on his cheap deal and maybe Crowder on his cheap deal. That’s about it.

It’s gonna take two first rounders if it gets done.
we as an organization are way too one-dimensional in terms of free agency moves.

"we'll sign Niang/Thabo/Udoh if we don't get KD."

it is never like that. it's not how free agency works.

Imagine now if we signed someone like Randle or Brook Lopez last summer, our season could've been a whole lot different. Heck, even if both of them suck balls, we could've used them to outbid Mavs for Porzingis, EASILY

This is Conley's value at his highest. His value will only decline after this summer. Whoever gets him in this trade will surely be keeping him till his contract expires. By getting his overpriced 30mil contract, who else do you think we can get in free agency that is worth any trade values? We won't trade Rudy, Ingles or Mitchell. We can't really trade Conley once we get him. Who else on this current roster do you think we can realistically put on the table to attract any other teams during a trade? Maybe Royce?
That wont change regardless of who we sign. The same is true of anyone. We will be operating over the cap. Favors and first round picks are tradeable. FAs that we pick up with MLE are tradeable. Finding players like Royce are tradeable. Conleys value might go down. But he will also be an expiring deal after next year that has value. There are many options going forward.

Why not just get the best deal period rather than on draft day?
Like if the jazz will give them a better offer after the draft then why take the crappier offer on the draft?

I guess they might think the jazz may land one the big fish and then not trade with Memphis?

Exactly. If we knew we are not landing a FA then sure negotiate but ultimately offer what you can. But we wont know that until FA. We could land Tobias or Russell, whom I prefer, for less money and not giving up any assets for.

not really. like i said before, we have a bunch of players on this roster that are currently "tradable", whether or not they are valuable enough to raise other teams' interest, is a whole different story.
Neto/Thabo/Niang/Allen/Udoh are nothing more than just salary fillers.
Dante is someone we have to GIVE AWAY assets for him in a trade.
Crowder is questionable at best after having an underwhelming year.
Ingles/Favors are too valuable in jazzfanz book and we'll likely be disappointed to see what we get in return when we traded them.
Only ones we can realistically put in a trade in return for something that are actually valuable are Mithcell and Gobert, and that's about it.

If we sign Tobias we give up most of those players as well. We would have to create space. We also will have the TPE this year and the MLE to sign more players. We also can sign as many vet min players to fill our roster that could turn into tradeable players. That is the cost of getting a high salary player.

Would you prefer us to sign a bunch of worse players just so we can make trades in the future for a better player?

if they aren't any worse than Niang or Neto or Udoh. at least not in other GM's eyes. then yes. you can't win if you don't play.

So you think our best course of action is to sign a few players at their level and hope to trade them for a better player in the future instead of signing a much much better player right now? Okay.

We can sign as many of those level players as we want any time. They are easy to come by.
