What's new

Jazz front runner for Conley

Big name free agents? We’ve landed Danny Manning, Tom Chambers, John Starks, Mark “I’m a huge douche” Jackson, plus Corey Maggette and Jason Terry.

All those guys were washed up when they came here and the last 2 didn't even play here were matched on restricted deals, but I give you the fact that they has intentions to play here.

You must be drinking the koolaid on those 2 buddy. Boozer and Memo weren't elite. They turned out to be great in our system with Jerry and his offense here. They left all-stars. But what were they as free agents? not elite Stupid.

Boozer barely averaged a double double in Cleveland and Memo's stats were weak in Detroit.
do you honestly think they would come here have them become established all-stars already?

you said it yourself, we as a small market team do not attract big name free agents. so what are our ways of getting star players? through trade, draft AND sign them BEFORE they become one.

Is there really a whole lot of difference between signing boozer/memo and acquiring someone like Mitchell in the draft? they were all young, underrated and yet to achieve their full potential.

of course we've seen cases of players failing to develop/achieving the minimum expectation, but I've said it time and time again, YOU CAN'T WIN IF YOU DON'T PLAY.

qThe Western conference is up for grabs this season, I would rather trade or sign known immediate talent than a prospect

Edit: me being dumb

why not both? there are players in the FA who can contribute right away while also having rooms to develop. can't be one-dimensional.

Again I'm not trying to debate or argue. I'm just saying we have to put all our chips in to win now. There is a negative cycle In Utah. Draft a prospect then they leave when their deal expires. Trade for players or sign older or non impactful players.

How do we change this ? Get someone like Conley to help the core we have to get to the next level.

Why though ? Any other factors but age?
And health ? I get it

I strongly believe Conley is way better. More dangerous scorer better bball iq and more versatile.
Conley is a proven commodity, Russel IS younger (you cant ignore age), if it's a cheaper contract then yeah, and Russel is what, 23? He is only going to improve

If we were getting Conley, I think it would have happened by now.
sign whoever we can sign in FA then come back mid-season with better assets and wait for the right opportunities. we are just not in a winning position for any kind of trade talks right now. NOT AT ALL.

plus I'm sure we'd still be in the playoffs mix by then with the existing roster.

No, Memphis and Utah would be holding out til the last day to shake down the final offer.

Why? If it's a draft trade that includes #23, I think it would be done by now. Memphis doesn't want anything we have outside of draft picks.

If anything, it might happen because our weak offer is the best offer they can get. Still seems like more chatter than I have ever heard for a Jazz trade that actually happened.
