What's new

Jazz @ mavericks

Barnes was $$$$$ in the last 10 minutes or so. He's in the best shape of his life. I hope they get the 1st pick

He was invisible in the last 5 minutes of the game and had 1 bucket in OT. He played really well when he checked in at the 10 minute mark until the 5:00 mark.

I was only able to see OT and didn't notice Barnes on the court at all. Looked like the Jazz were more concerned about Seth Curry than anyone else. Just saw Gorgod chasing Curry around a bunch and DWill blowing by Diaw (only to miss a layup and have Dirk clank one)

I'd rather see Rudy pull down 20 rebounds every night and earn his coin than care about a couple of extra rebounds for guards.
He's a centre for a reason and knows his job.
We play slow. Guards getting a couple of extra rebounds won't change that. It's how we play.
I'd rather see our guards throw 10 assists each night with 0 rebounds than 3-4 assists with 5 rebounds.

Not in the current NBA. Teams don't contest offensive rebounds at the beginning of games that allows the guards to get rebounds and push the ball. Rudy needs to be more aware and his team mates need to communicate with him better as for letting him know that they have the rebound. It really isn't a difficult thing especially for high quality nba players.

Note - I'm not saying Rudy should stop going for rebounds, he just needs to stop stealing them from team mates (early in games) when it is clear that they have them under control. Im probably picking the worst time to bring this up given Rudy was huge on the boards down the stretch tonight but watch tomorrow at the beginning of the game and guaranteed their will be a couple of instances where he grabs the board when he could easily leave it for a team mate.

It isn't a big thing but if we want to push the ball more then in order for that to happen our guards need to get more rebounds and that can only happen if Rudy isn't taking them all.

False thinking...which is faster a man dribbling up the court after a rebound or a pass ahead to a breaking player? Let Rudy get all the rebounds he can.

Rudy isn't capable of throwing the ball up ahead unless their is a clear path. Rudy trying to split a small gap with a throw ahead pass is asking for trouble and 99/100 result in a turnover.

The game against the pacers was close to the best we have looked all season and was certainly the fastest we have played. This coincided with Rudy picking up his 10th rebound with a minute left on the clock and our guards getting more rebounds then they are used to. If not for the Pacers hitting some tough three's this game would have been a massive blow out. Now not every game would be played out like the one against Indiana and some will be slower and that will serve a greater purpose in achieving the W, however it is a far to simplistic view to suggest that Rudy get every rebound and us to not incorporate different ways of operating our offense. The more flexible we are and the different styles we can play make us a more dangerous team, so to not try it would be a waste. If it fails then it fails, might lose a couple of regular season games but if its successful that could be the difference during a playoff series, especially against a team like Memphis who are older and could be ran off the floor. On the other hand against a Houston or GSW you want to slow the game down.

Our guards got rebounds because the Pacers were putting 2 guys on Rudy when a shot went up on a lot of those plays. The Pacers were holding, boxing out and doing everything in their power to keep Rudy off the boards. So Rudy did not just allow them to get those boards, they got them because their man was helping on Rudy and they were open. I want the guards to go for rebounds, I just don't see any advantage to telling an aggressive rebounder to hold back. That encourages not being aggressive.
