Jazz Officially Matched Hayward According to Woj

Because you think a player's agent is going to have their player sign a contract when they know Charlotte is interested in paying their player big $$$ if their current offer with a tied up player falls through?

Use your brain. I think the money being tied up thing effects the smaller deals, but the players who are looking for big money will wait for teams to be freed up so they can get the most $$$.

Yeah teams like Miami, Houston, Lakers, and Dallas are offering and signing players that the Hornets were hoping to target if the Jazz matched. Too late for for some of the players they were looking for like Parsons, Nick Young, Lance Stephenson. There is other teams with big money out there and wiling to spend it, not just Charlotte my friend. Use your brain

So you think those player's agents had no contact with the Bobcats? If they knew the Bobcats were willing to offer more money than any of those teams, they would have waited most likely.

The passing isn't that useful if there aren't players who can first bend the defense. Teams will continue to play Gordo and Trey straight up until they show they can score effectively in isos and pick and rolls. At that point, they'll be passing to players who are well defended.

Alec's shown that he's an effective end-of-shot clock safety valve; maybe he can make strides leveraging the defense to create better shots for his teammates. Too early to say what we have in Dante as well, but probably one of Alec or Dante should be on the court at all times, since they seem to be the two Jazz players with the physical ability to draw extra defenders.

This.

Ppl over reacting like whoa.

The "stick it to other teams!" angle is so so sooooo overplayed and somewhat of a fantasy created in fans heads.

BY FAR the best strategy for an NBA team (and any bizness really) is to focus on what your organization is doing, and do it well. It's laughable to think that screwing other teams over is a foundation to successfully build your franchise around. Just do you, period.

Once you decide that you are matching no matter what, there is some value in coming out and saying, "This is our guy. We didn't need to take this to the final hour because it is a no brainer for us." Even if that's not how you exactly feel, it sends a message to the fans, the players, and everyone in the organization that we don't feel like we are over paying for Gordie.

Charlotte offered Gordon that contract hoping the Jazz wouldnt match, so pls stop with saying that we could have somehow screwed them by not matching. I really really can't believe that is something I have to type out tbh.

This. 1,000 freaking times, this!

Not a huge fan of the move, but it's here now so we need to deal with it.

Ok Hayward what are you going to do to earn that MAX? You better prove your worth.

I can see the argument that some people are bummed out that we matched, even if I disagree. However, seeing fans bitch and moan about Utah announcing the match 13 hours prior to the deadline and saying that this makes Utah look weak is pretty dumb.

Probably did it because Hayward is in town for 7/11-12 with his basketball camp. He can sign his deal just by dropping by the Jazz office before he leaves. It's a good PR move by Dennis to show no hard feelings. I didn't want the Jazz to match, but the market IS crazy. I'm just discounting last year completely; I think Hayward is a 45%/40% player. Still think he should have agreed to less like Favors did, but the contract isn't likely to cause financial distress. I think he opts out after three years, at which point Utah has additional picks in 2017, or maybe Hood is ready to be a starter.
