Sure Giannis is a do almost everything superstar, and Middleton is 2nd tier NBA star, but their main 7 guys are really just grind it out hustle guys.

Jrue - defensive specialist who can sometimes score
Tucker - defensive specialist who rarely scores
Lopez - floor spreading C who plays hard
Conaughton - hustle guy
Portis - all purpose big who plays really hard

All of the 5 above are solid or good players who bust their *** every chance they get. They all can hit the occasional 3 or guard the occasional wing if needed.
 
Realistic guys I have my eye on in free agency to add to the toughness factor of our team. I want guys who are going to play with the heart necessary to get us over the hump:

Free agents:

PJ Tucker - probably not possible, but I'd love having him.
Theis - stretch 5 hustle guy. If we trade/dump Favors, I want him.
Olynyk - if not Theis, get Olynyk.
Patty Mills - another all heart guy. Would love him off the bench.
Caruso - probably impossible, but would try to get him.
Ntilikina - pure hustle, great defense, awful offense. We could make a long term role for him.

Trade targets:

Rozier - he plays with that fire that we need.
Nance - hustle, heart guy. Solid player.
John Collins - budding superstar so probably impossible, but I like the edge he plays with.

I'm sure there are more, but these are the guys I would target.

Yep. Gotta fill the gaps with length. I’m so impressed by what Milwaukee and Phoenix got out of their perimeter defenders. Full value for talent in a lot of cases.

When both of those teams were really dug in and turned up to 10, you could see exactly why we didn’t belong on that stage.

The Bucks won with heart.

Connaughton is a 6'5" tweener. He shot awful yesterday, but he played 23 minutes and outrebounded everybody on the Suns except Crowder

PJ Tucker is only 6'5", played 36 minutes last night and didn't even score. But his defense and energy were crucial.

Sure Portis and Lopez are tall, but they played less minutes than the two guys above. To me, it all comes down to effort. The Bucks won this series because everybody, big or small, played hard.

Also add in that Jrue is only 6'3", and played his butt off for 46 minutes.

The real problem would be rebounding against the jumbo lineups. Gobert can guard Giannis as well as any big in the NBA on his drives to the rim, but against their jumbo lineups your 4 others have to be super engaged in boxouts and crashing the glass.

That being said, Utah won the rebounding matchup in each game vs teh Bucks this year (as well as winning both games comfortably). Milwaukee would be a dream matchup for Utah as it would allow them to play to their strengths.

But what matters most of all is that your best players remain healthy.

So you are saying the Suns didnt play hard?

TO say it all boiled to effort is extremely disrespectful. The Suns played as hard as they could.

It's the fact that one team has to guard Giannis and the other doesnt. Suns became more 1 dimensional, relying too much on Booker's midrange heroics. Bucks had multiple ways of attacking and keeping their stars fresh that the Suns didnt.
 
Suns really need Bridges and Ayton to take the next steps in becoming more assertive self-creators. They both have the talent to improve in those areas. If Chris Paul takes any sort of step-back (assuming he actually re-signs) then the Suns are in big trouble.

The Suns were gifted one of the easier paths to the NBA Finals in recent memory. (AD hurt, Murray hurt, Kawhi hurt). It's only going to get harder. They have to keep Paul, but if they do it's going to cost them an insane amount of money and then they have to pay Ayton and Bridges the following year. They will already be in the tax if they keep Paul (unless he heavily discounts), so in the 2022 off-season they will have to potentially offload Bridges or Ayton.

I'm not saying the Suns didn't play hard, but the Bucks just played harder. They made more plays that don't necessarily show up in the box score.

Crowder was scrapping the entire game, but I didn't see Paul, Booker, Bridges, Ayton, Payne or Johnson impose their energy on the game. It was obvious that Kaminsky brought a grit and energy that the Suns needed. He was crucial in his 11 minutes just like Portis was in his minutes for the Bucks.

The Bucks outrebounded the Suns by 16. They held the Suns to 14 assists which means they pressured the ball into iso situations while they covered the paint. The Bucks did the little things.
