Jazz Scrimmage 2pm MT Time Today

I think the first half of Lonzo's wind up when he shoots is unorthodox and looks ugly.

The rest of it actually looks ok in my opinion. Once it leaves his hands it has a nice arc etc.

We've seen the jazz purposefully change Dante's form because the first half of his shot he was winding up from the side of his hip and it looked awkward. I doubt that the lakers are even worried about Lonzo's form, to need to change it. Although you would think that lining the ball up with, and up above his head as he releases would benefit him, but you never know.

He looks like a good player, but he needs to be able to hit threes and stretch the floor to be effective. More than any other player I think he needs to be shooting 38% or better to be really valuable.

When Locke interviewed him on media day, he said that Jerebko's 3-pt % was 39.7 over the last three years, and Jerebko added that was with limited attempts, that he thought he could do better if he got more opportunities.

No, he's expendable because of Rubio and the fact that Dante will want to start. So, it's going to be either Rubio or Dante. Neto will probably continue as the third-string PG unless he makes continual improvement, and then we have Mitchell who could be the combo guard.

I think it depends on if he gets a big offer. What if Rubio has a couple of career years under Quin and then goes George Hill on the Jazz and wants $30m/per? Jazz might decide an Exum/Mitchell tandem at PG is better, especially if they've already spent big money on keeping Hood and Favs (or dealt for another big salary starter).

One thing I noticed in those highlights was that Mitchell looked a bit small trying to guard Alec Burks and Joe Johnson. Both of them got separation and knocked down open looks. I'm not sure if Mitchell was really going all out on defense or not, but it's something to keep an eye on. He may be better off defending smaller guards and wings.

I remember Mitchell guarding Tatum (who's 6'8) in summer league. The play that stuck out to me most was not when he stole it from Tatum but on a possession where Tatum rose up for a mid range jumper; I remember thinking "Wholly sh**... despite Tatum's size advantage, Mitchell is right in his grill! Like, he's glued to Tatum's hip and is level with him in the air."

That said, I'm not worried about Mitchell defensively, unless he's guarding Kawhi, Durant, LeBron, Giannis... that might be about it as far as wings go.

But what if Dante is on a trajectory to be better than Rubio? I don't understand your logic. He might not be better than Rubio at the end of the season but on course to be better...

I'm not saying it won't be Dante, but it's still uncertain how good Dante will become -- he may never be as good as Rubio is now, and Rubio probably still has 6-7 good years left, and could get better -- he's only 26.

Main thing that stood out to me (I only watched about 2 minutes lol) is Ball's ugly *** jump shot. Man that thing is hideous. Saw him shoot an ugly *** 3 ball that was an air ball.
Saw him make a floater in the paint but even that was ugly and awkward

And is he really that much of an athlete?

Come to think of it, Lonzo has that type of shot that you see at early high school when I was younger and playing. The type of form that you're baffled as to how it sometimes goes in.

And is he really that much of an athlete?

Guess you hate Ball because his father is such an A-hole? Doesn't take away from the fact that the kid has talent. Magic is high on him and Magic has one of the highest BB IQs of any player who ever played. I'm just giving my opinion about his court awareness and you dislike my post ... wtf, Julius. Steve Nash wasn't a great athlete either.

The problem with Ball's jumper isn't that he can't hit a set shot. I mean, it is going to be hard to keep it consistent because he's using weaker muscles to get it in the right shooting slot. He's just going to be more prone to errant shots with his current form. He can overcome that or maybe he has done it so many times that it doesn't matter as much in perfect conditions. The main issue is that it will limit what he can do off the dribble. This will especially be true when driving to the right. I think you see some of this issue in his almost complete lack of a middle game. Maybe he can develop something that works for him, or maybe he'll always be limited to driving and spot up shooting/step backs. His passing will still make him valuable, but if I was him I'd start fixing that jump shot during the next off-season.
