Except that Turner can really shoot. Turner is the one who comps to a taller/longer Andray Blatche, imo. Maker has a long way to go, and I worry about his quickness and coordination. Remember how talented Derrick Favors looked offensively when he was 18 and 19, playing against inferior athletes? Maker looks similar at this stage, but you have to see him in an NBA setting.

A lot will depend on Maker's mental toughness and work to make up for mediocre feel for the game. He can, however, be a significant defensive presence once he gets stronger (e.g., Hassan Whiteside).

Reminder of what Derrick Favors looked like at a similar age... ( Oh, and that's the other thing---do we know Maker is really telling the truth about is age? )

He immigrated from Sudan, (at the age of 5) so he doesn't have a birth certificate..

My favorite Favors mix btw..
 
Do we know what Maker shot from 3 his last year in high school? Edit: 31.6% on 30-95. Ouch. That's a high school three too. Not awful but not promising. 71% from the line though.

And someone said he has small hands. What size are they?

Do we think, with coaching (learning to get lower in his stance, lateral quickness work, shooting), he could play some 3 as well, maybe not in the next year or two, but 3-4 years from now?

The first weakness stated is: Feel for the Game. That scares me. This system needs high bball iq guys imo. Also, "can be a bit of a black hole." High TO rate, low A rate.

Yeah, **** him in the 1st. Not even sure I'd want him in the 2nd tbh. 40 sounds about right by Givony.
 
What I like about Thon Maker is he's always communicating with his teammates, plays hard, great motor, competitiveness, very well spoken and serious about making it in the big league. It took Rudy a few years and I'm sure Thon can do the same, just as long he's given a chance.
 
In the 2015 Hoops Summit, he played just 14 minutes and was 0-5 from the floor and 2-4 from the line for 2 points. He did grab 10 rebounds in that time though.

I'm under the impression he's a ~30% shooter from 3 with room for improvement from HS range.

I'd also say there's some Perry Jones III to Thon's skillset..

As for his hands, even if they're small on Utah there's a good foundation for team rebounding set, they tip the ball to each other off the boards pretty well, obviously when you have Rudy it's not all that hard to do, he can do that. Might take some time and 15lbs for him to really be decent on the boards though.. If his standing reach is 9'5½" with small hands that means his arms really long, Rudy territory, his shoulders are certainly narrower.

He could guard Steve Novak at 3 but thats about it. Maybe Paul Pierce if he's still playing, he'd give ya a good effort though no matter what.
 
Very little interest. Bad passer. Bad iq. Black hole on o. Tunnel vision. Not even a smart rebounder. Poor shot selection. What's to like really?
